For all practical purposes that does look like a very persuasive option, but there is one glaring problem that I just can't seem to step around; you'd be driving a J reg. Suzuki Alto

It's amazingly simple under the bonnet, even simpler and far cheaper than a 2CV. For anyone who wants cheap and simple motoring, this meets the spec

I found this 4-door (like our one) on the internet, also a 2-door Dutch one, I might post a pic of under the bonnet

Here's hoping you got lucky Paul. 12 months ticket - so someone believes in it and it looks tidy enough. I do sympathise with your dilemma when you're on a tight budget; take a risk on a car you really love or drive around in a baked bean tin - that would hardly raise your eyebrows if you twatted it - because it's 'sensible' and 'practical'. Personally, I've never really been a big fan of 'sensible'!

It certainly looks nice enough Paul. I had a 1.9td LX in exactly the same colour. I didn't have much luck with it, but my brother had a base model 1.9; he paid 200 quid for it, drove it into the ground and never had a days problem with it - so you never know!

I've got a spare set of those wheel trims somewhere. I'll stick 'em in the boot and bring them to the X rally - yours if you want them?

About as simple a Xantia as you'll get: not Hydractive 2, and nice 1.9 TD. Well done. Should do you good service. Check the front strut tops though
