And also better looks, or am I the only one to think huge wheels with a tiny strip of tyre round the outside just look plain wrong?DavidRutherford wrote:Fit smaller wheels with high-profile tyres, and you have a soft ride again.
Speedline question.

Not at all, Mat. I like to see a tyre! For that reason I have a reluctant fondness for some SUV's. Although that fondness ends at the wheels I guess. But when you see a Range Rover Spurt with rubber bands around 20"+ rims that is absolutely stupid!mat_fenwick wrote:And also better looks, or am I the only one to think huge wheels with a tiny strip of tyre round the outside just look plain wrong?DavidRutherford wrote:Fit smaller wheels with high-profile tyres, and you have a soft ride again.

Yes I understand it is the sidewall height that affects the ride but it is th width that creates the extra road noise which is why I have gone for the 175/65 to take the sidewall height back up to 114 whilst reducing the road noise. It is the closest I can get back to the original steel fitment whilst keeping the speedlines.DavidRutherford wrote:It's not the width that ruins the ride quality, it's the sidewall height. 165/70's have a sidewall height of 116mm, whereas 195/55's have a sidewall height of 107. Not a massive difference, but enough that there is a lot less flex in them, and so you get more high frequencies transmitted.Defender110 wrote: As above from pg. 1 ; the wider 195's have ruined the ride quality. I'm trying to get back as close to the original 165's whilst keeping the Graphite Speedlines which realy do suit the car.
I hadn't considered 185/65 because it was never a Citroen fitment option and although the comfort of the 120mm sidewall sounds appealing I would then need to alter the speedo drive to suit wouldn't I?

Had the new 175/65 tyres fitted today the latest Mitchelin Energy 'Green' and wow I can't believe the difference. It has never driven so well, very happy they look spot on too
I really liked Davids idea of the 185/65 for the 120mm side wall hieght and would of liked to have tried that but had already ordered the tyres.
