On running non-diesel products in a diesel, it is actually perhaps a rather more complicated equation than I inferred

I take your point, however was very much of the opinion that in informal writing (such as may appear on an internet forum) infer may be correctly be used as a synonym for 'suggest' or 'hint'? I do believe that such usage may be regarded as somewhat controversial however, and feel gladdened that a certain individual is no longer a member of the moderation team, in case entering into such a contoversy were to result in getting banned again :wink:
