Whats better the car or estate
I think the car looks good. But the bx was one of the best estates around.
My grandad says, Get the estate. More pratical but ive nerver driven an estate before.
What would you buy. The car or Estate?
Thanks

Depends on what you want to use the car for doesn't it Paul.
There's not much point getting an estate if you don't need the extra space is there.
I would still call the estate a "car" though it's just bigger.
I'D get the hatch simply because I think it's better looking and it's not as big, I don't need a big car although the bigger boot will be useful these next few months ...

For tall drivers, go for the estate. Most hatches had the sliding sunroof, and it eats into the headroom for 6-footers like me, and I suspect the estate's roof is slightly higher too, so more than a hatch without 'roof! I don't like driving laid flat on my back...

also the estate has by far the better visabilaty out of the rear,
i dont think the roof in the front is any higher than the hatch, but in the rear i belive there is more headroom than the hatch

Depends on what you use it for, if like me your 5ft 9 then space is fine on either, I much prefer the looks of the hatch and having the glass sunroof option makes it nice and airy, but dont deny the estate is very versatile and practical if a little ugly (in my opinion of course).

Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....
ok so i have had both teh tri hatch and currently have the tzi estate
it really comes down to what you will be doign with the car
i love the tzi i do a lot of camping so i need to lug a lot of equipment with me (a camping trip for me can involve a 2000-3000 km round trip) the estate has the room i need
but it handles liek a little hatchback
i can zp in and out of traffic in it and it doesnt feel liek a big car
also are ou lookign at a manor auto gear box
i think the auto is ok if you dont care abotu performance
but if you want to get off the ligths fast then get the man bx

Hatchback is better looking, and my preference, the hatchback does everything i need.
The Estate is better built (because it wasn't built in the Citroen factory!), better thought out in the rear (boot carpets, side boards, fittings), more versatile (you CAN get 3 under counter fridges/washing machines in the boot), great for camping (just sleep in the back).
I've had one, wouldn't have on again, its a preference thing

do you still have room for your tent or dose that go on the roof bars,
as for the sort of miles your going the rear of the car will be full of tinny's, how do you keep them chilled TEA HE,

i have 2 eski's (chilly bins for the kiwi's in here)
one for beer and other alcohol and one for food
one of them is a fridge eski
my car is set up for touring with a power supply in the back running off a dry cell battery that charges of the aultinator through a splitter (charges the main battery first than the dry cell)
tent fits fine and its a 6 person tent at that
plus the queen air bed
lst big trip i did i had 2 other people in
4 tents including my big one
3 eskis
3 big back packs
2 sleeping bags one doona
1 over size blanket
all in the car and i could still see out the back window and nothing on the roof
its all about tetras
am i am a master at playing tetras
lmao
oh and i never drink and drive
i might spill it
but once the car is stopped for the night the beer is the first thing unpacked and never set up a tent till after the first beer
[/offtoppic]
so to answer that question if you plan of doing lots of trips and packing lots of stuff in the car get an estate and learn to play tetras

It all depends upon what you want to use the car for. I have a BX Estate, well two of them, and an AX Hatch. I found the BX Hatch was a pain, as the tailgate didn't go down to the bumper, mind you I still had two of them. The AX is much better in this respect. I find the Estate is easier to manoeuvre in tight spaces as the visibility is so much better. I'm prejudiced of course, I've always had an estate as well as other cars. The best was the DS 23 Semi-hydraulic (automatic clutch), run a close second by the CX. The most fun to drive was the GS 1220, and the one that always brought a smile to my face was the Ami 8. I'm a Citroen man through and through as you can see.
Incidentally a CX Estate almost got a mate a free load of bricks, sand and cement. He went to his local builders merchant to buy the materials to build a retaining wall for his garden. There must have been about a ton and a half in total. As you can imagine the CX was right down on its hunkers when all that was aboard. He was just about to start-up, when the owner of the yard comes back in his Jag. He stopped and said, if you can get that over the hump, pointing-out the speed hump at the entrance to the yard, you can have the load for free. You can imagine his face when my mate started-up and the hydraulics took the strain. He didn't have the heart to take him up on his offer. Some people are just too nice.

I'm 5'8 and have no problems what so ever. I usually manage to sleep in the back of the hatchback without problems, but the estate is like luxury in comparison. I assume you've tried folding the seats down?Magpi wrote:only if your 5 foot tall im 5'9 and still cramped in the back of my estate end up sleeping in fettle positionVanny wrote: great for camping (just sleep in the back).

Likewise, I'm also 5' 8", can sleep comfortably in the hatch, in the break I've got enough room for a party...
Maybe Australian inches are longer than UK inches?

Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!
Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

hmm contemplates the benifits of engrish inches being samller tehn aussie ones
d'oh i knew i forgot not to fold down the back seat
ok with back seet folded down in tehr hatch i had to lay on teh diagonal
and even then my feet were still in the air
in the estat i still have to lay on the diagonal but i can fit no troubles even with the queen size air bed inflated into the space
though i do find the back seat very comfortabel to sleep in as well
when i had to crush my hatch i contemplated chopping the fron off and turnign it into a camper of sorts
chopping in front of the B pillare and then tapering down the fron to meet at the towing point
also was tryginto work out a electric pump system to run the suspention of the back wheels
