I've been towed without engine running on a few occasions and it's not very pleasant, we even had the police follow us home once, but they said as we were on a bar, not a rope it was ok.

Another plan would be put a timing belt on and connect some jump leads and turn it over until you have some pressure in the system.
Or tow it round in gear until the suspension builds up assuming you put some kind of spheres back on.

How far do you have to tow it?

I was once involved in using the motor and pulley from an old pillar drill and suitably long belt to pressurise the hydraulics on a CX with dismantled engine.

I seem to remember that holding the motor to give suitable tension on the belt to defeat slippage was something of a challenge and more than a little dangerous, but it did work...

Yup, me too. This probably must be the case with all CX owners.

Don't turn the engine without the head bolted up properly, or you will move the wet cylinder liners.

XUD's are dry blocks, so that wont be an issue.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

If money wasn't a problem I would hire a JCB and smash it into the ground. That would be much more satisfying.

Unfortunately I need the money so [hopefully] it's getting fixed and made "nice" again. That way I should get something back.

I was hoping to be down in Oxfordshire this weekend with a car transporter and would have moved it for you, but that looks unlikely to happen now as the car I was buying has been sold to someone else. :(

Nooo that would have been ideal.

Plus you'd get to see the TZD.

Best suggestion now seems to be have a look for a cheap towbar, hook up and drag it.

I have one of these

They're not brilliant but it would get the car moved, especially as it's only going a short distance.
You'd need to remove the front bumper to get at the towing eye, but that's a really easy job on a late model BX.

What about the back bumper of the car towing, if it's a BX? From looking at it, there's a cut out bit, but even with this there's not much room say, if there's a big bump in the road etc. I don't want to crack my bumper.
