Coming back to the flock?

Post by Dollywobbler »

Well, I was offline for most of the weekend but got back home last night and immediately lobbed a bid on a BX estate - a white TGD - for £266. And won it too!

I'm off to see it this evening to see if it's anywhere near the description (some rot at base of the B pillar but lots of news goodies including head gasket, suspension 'balls' (spheres?), radiator etc).

Hope it's ok because I really fancy getting back to the BX and while I've had a 19TurGiD before, I've not yet owned an estate.

Could be an ideal tool for the BXagon Challenge...

Wahey! Welcome back to the flock sir! Hope it does turn out to be a good 'un, those estates are amazingly good load luggers.

Well, she's mine. 142k, owned since 1994 by a chap in our village, serviced at the local garage every year (expensive but good in our experience), taken to a local Citroen specialist for suspension work, fitted with a towbar, drives nicely and generally seems pretty sound bar the described corrosion. Boot floor area very tidy and it rises quickly and smoothly. Brakes are a little inconsistent, but I think it's been sitting for a short while and it might just be me not being used to hydraulics.

Well, darkness ruined tonight's pics, but here she is. Delivered to my door for £266! (I did run the chap back home though...)

It's always good when your suspension has balls!

Welcome back!
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Should have mentioned earlier - my old forum name was yan_green but I changed surname, changed job, got married etc. No, I wasn't on the run...

Ten years ago, I owned a BX TGD hatch, but that was before the internet really got going. Then, about four or five years ago, I owned a Valver and I think that's about the time I checked in here.

Neither of those lasted long - six months for the TGD, eight weeks (and 4000 miles!) for the Valver. Wonder if the estate will stay for longer...

Anyway, gave the ol' girl a scrub and she's come up quite nicely.

Need some LHM now though as she's a bit low. Actually, there is a whiff of the stuff so I hope she's not leaking...

Actually, I must have some in the garage as my 2CV has the same 'life blood.' Come on rain, stop!

Thanks Tim. She's a bit scabby close up, but not bad. Just hope she's not leaking as that'd be a bad start to the relationship!

Welcome back...

Not a bad looking motor, and the best wheel trims for a boggo white BX IMO.

Yup, I quite like the trims too. Sooooo easy to clean compared to the alloys on the Alfa 164 I owned recently!

I also went around the usual spots with some anti-rust wax. Any tips for the best way to get some inside the sills?

Oh balls. It's peeing LHM out all over the place. Leak is around the bottom of the cambelt cover area and when you drop the car, it sprays it out everywhere. Wish I hadn't just put a litre and a bit of LHM into it...

As someone on here once said: If it is made by Man it can be fixed by Man.

Sounds like you've got a common fault - either strut return pipe (doesn't usually spray everywhere though in my experience, or Octopus. Citroen still do them.
