does the xantia have power breaks like the bx thanks

Hi im looking at a Xantia. At the weekend. Its a 97 1.9 td sx ac
I was just wondering if the Xantia. Has power breaks. Just like the bx?
And if its got a cd changer as well. It said on the add its got one. But i sopke to the man selling it. He said hes not quite sure. The problem with this car. Its go no sevice history or mots. HE said he will tax and mot it for. If i trade in my clio plus 200 pounds. Its done 150.000 miles.
Its says it has 2 owners from new. But you have though hey would have kept some history.
In my hart ill love a bx. but we have to move on in life. The bx is a graet car. But there are getting rearer by the minite. The xantia will be the closest thing. Ill get to a bx. The only other on would be a xm. But they are going up in price and are a bit big for me at the moment. on insureance.
Q1 Does the xantia have power breaks like the bx?
Q2 would the xantia 1.9td sx ac have a cd auto changer in the boot ?

Yes it does have power brakes.

It may have a CD changer in the boot.

At 150,000 miles IT MAY NEED A NEW CLUTCH!

Just watch out for a high or stiff clutch pedal. Xantia's usually give a warning to the owner when the clutch needs changing. They have a plastic clip that brakes off when the clutch gets stiff. You can replace it but it will quickly brake again.

The engine looks a bit dirty. Greecy but it starts up ok. Ive already looked at it. Off with my grandad at the weekend. Knowing my luck it would have gone.

Wouldn't have thought it would have twin front airbags, let alone side ones, on a pre-facelift Xantia.

Main issues to watch out for, head gasket (pressure in water system and clutch) also watch out for niggling electrical faults like ABS warning light and airbag light.

How much is your clio worth if you sold it privately? Isnt this the classic salesmans pitch, to get a the car sorted with a 12mth ticket & add 6mths tax as long as you trade in your much nicer, low mileage & easier to sell on traded car for a 150k dog, oh, & of course a few extra hundred quid on top for the privelege????

I said ill give u my clio plus 200 pound. I then phoned him up later. And said can u give us mot and taxed. He said yes. I bet he will sell it more then 500

Paul, I saw/read the posting of the BX Rendezvous that you posted in the 'spotted' prior to this post and I made reference to the Clio there, so after reading up in this thread I now know your still after a replacement for the Clio !
With the Xantia beware as this is a P/X and the dealer has made this statement "P/EX TO CLEAR DO NOT COME WITH PEACE OF MIND PROMISE". Therefore if there is no warranty given or implied you need someone who is suitably qualified and experienced to give a thorough health check over it !
Also as this has the Alcantara upholstery fitted to it high miler's do not wear very well and can have a scruffy appearance to them especially to the Drivers seat base/back bolsters !
Also check the the suspension strut tops in-case there corroded and may 'Spear' the bonnet as covered on the FCF in great detail (LINK).

Thanks when i sat in the car It had a seat cover on it i think. I was shcoked when i saw the bx on autotrader. When i normaly have a look. Theres alsways that red one. Could not belive it. I dont think no ones seen it yet on here. Si=o I thought illl let people now what i saw.

Paul I take this is the Xantia you sat in, so have been to see it today (rather than this coming weekend) or have you viewed the car prior to the initial posting of this thread ?
So if it was today that you went to view it, are you going to give us all a clue then, to what your decision was after some off the help/checks you were advised on/given to do !

Ive seen 3 others. The first one was a petrol. But it was a garden shed. THe 2nd one was a 2.1 td. which would be to dear to insur And was going for 995 on a T plate. The other one was a esaste and petrol. This xantia is diesel which i want. And is a 1.9 td that doesnt cost to much. Ive allready seen it last weekend. It looked ok. But the engine was a bit dirty. Had no service history. And there was some rust on the wheels. But he said he would give us a full mot and some tax. If i gave him my clio. With 11 months mot plus 500 pound.

If I were you, I'd wait and keep trawling the free internet selling sites and look for a private owner who's selling his Xantia, preferably someone who's had it some time.
Xantia's are not very expensive now.

I'd keep off ebay as well.

Just to re-cap, so a car swap plus you giving him £500, you'd be absolutely barking to go for that deal, the car is shit, it was probably shit when it was new, guarantee it'll need a new clutch in the next 10 miles of your ownership, walk away, there's hundreds of xantias for sale in better condition for similar money which do have service history & lower mileage.

Do you actually do high mileage? if not get a petrol, they are even cheaper & have much lower mileage & will most likely be in much better nick. Cars with no service history usually mean that basic maintenance hasnt been done for years.
