SORTED - was **URGENT** Dorchester, Dorset - 2cv...

Post by toomany2cvs »

I've just had a phone call from Ellie, sat in sulking 2cv in a lane somewhere near Dorchester.

One driveshaft has done a runner from the gearbox, one bolt findable, and the inner joint on the shaft is not sounding healthy.

Can anybody think of a local 2cver or 2cv specialist who can help? I reckon the quickest and easiest solution is going to be inner shaft, set of bolts, a can of brake cleaner and some kitchen roll, and possibly a pad. But I'm 100 miles away.

Give me a shout - *Number removed*- if you can think of somebody.

THANK YOU!

Heh. I'm not that daft! She's got RAC, but it's such a silly-quick fix that it seems ridiculous to get her recovered home (hour and a bit wait, then three hours on a wagon) just for her to swap cars and head back out again - she's having a few days holiday with a friend down there.

Anyway, looks like it's sorted - Rick Pembro is grabbing some bits and heading from Yeovil with underpants firmly on the outside. Above and beyond the call of duty. The man is a hero.

I can't quite figure out what's happened here. It sounds as if the bolts have just fallen out - but that disc hasn't been off since the car was rebuilt a decade ago. They don't appear to have sheared, going by telephone diagnosis with a non-techie person.

Still. At least they're not on a main road. It'd be nice if other drivers weren't ignoring the hazard lights and warning triangle then hurling abuse at them for "having a picnic" in a stupid place, though... <roll eyes>

I've actually been viewed with deepest suspicion after stopping to help people. I'll always do it if it's dark or out of mobile signal (most of my commute to work is), the rest of the time depends if I'm in a hurry and whether they look like they need help or can manage themselves. I've been on the opposite end a number of times and I know how demoralising it is when people put their blinkers on, even when you try and flag them down.

When I was living in Scotland it was an unwritten law that hitch hikers were picked up and breakdowns investigated - well in rural areas anyway, and especially in winter. Mind you that was a few years ago so attitudes might have changed.

Hi Adrian,
If it happens again in that part of the country, try Simon Doe at the Corner Garage in Melplash - H van specialist but will always make an effort for a sick Citroen of any kind.

glad it's sorted mate, I've removed your number to avoid you getting "you want 10 dollar quickie quickie?" type calls in the wee small hours...
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...
