I managed 38MPG fromt he valver on V=power, all motor way commuting to and from the farm during my holiday, I was most impressed.
The TD is giving about 55MPG at the moment, I'm sure it would be more if I could work out where the slight fuel leak is though..

Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!
Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

£80 in the tank from very very low to very very full got me 500 miles. That was a long haul down to Lands End and up to Worcester way. Mostly 85-90mph (naughty I know) and stop start town stuff. Dont know what the MPG is on that... bout 37 I reckon... not bad really. Town she is terrible, but if its a long journey she is great, which is surprising as the gearing is really short.
Tried a couple of tanks of v-power since I got her, and it doesn't like it. Normal boring 95 ron is its favourite.

Using 98 as opposed to 95 in an everyday car is unlikely to make worthwhile difference - the premium fuels like that are only really designed for high performance vehicles (bikes, the Bentley that used to frequent the garage where I used to work as it was the only garage nearby that sold super), as they have far better knocking resistance.
If that's a petrol though, not bad!

Unless it\'s a 16v, in which case if it\'s 2-row (which I believe Doc\'s is.....he is a man afterall!) it\'ll have been mapped on 4-star, which is closer to 98RON.Willy wrote:Using 98 as opposed to 95 in an everyday car is unlikely to make worthwhile difference - the premium fuels like that are only really designed for high performance vehicles (bikes, the Bentley that used to frequent the garage where I used to work as it was the only garage nearby that sold super), as they have far better knocking resistance.

My 16v really leans out at around 3k revs, so in hot weather I put V-Power or whatever brand it is at the time in until it stops pinking. Then I get cheap and put normal in. No difference in power or economy, but the pinking goes away
The economy I\'m getting? Erm....well.......my sig kinda says it all really! But that is mainly town driving and barely warming up each morning.

And I reckon that 26.5 is about to drop back into sub-24mpg next time I update it, judging by the current run it\'s just coming to the end of!

My old GTi Auto got 21 mpg round town.... and the Xantia 2.0i auto is getting 26+ mpg doing the same work.
The GTi got around 32-34 on a run, the Xantia 36+.
Can't quite work that out except to say... I think the BX wasn't exactly happy at 222k miles on its original engine and 'box?
Both on 95RON.

Yes indeed, none of that 3 row knock sensor crap in mine!Kitch wrote:Unless it's a 16v, in which case if it's 2-row (which I believe Doc's is.....he is a man afterall!) it'll have been mapped on 4-star, which is closer to 98RON.

I know it's not the most scientific of tests, but Esso 98 has put me up from 42 to 52 on a fairly identical 90% motorways tank. Now trying a tank of V-power (was the cheapest of all my local stations) at a rather off-putting 141.9, although at least if it goes wrong I'll have a nice clean engine, or whatever the spurious marketing claim is. Prefer the smell of normal petrol though

Our trips are pretty consistant in distance and where to ( only one road ) that said you can see from recorded records a pattern and 10 miles per litre from the diesel is what I have achieved as an average. The BX petrols well they are the odd bods with 9 for the TZS and 11 kilometres per litre from the TRS. Both 1905cc engines yet a variation of 2 litres of which I have calculated that the TZS is low due to a 10% speedo/odo error.
So the irony is that the Petrols do 10km per litre where as the diesel does 10 miles per litre. Miles being further
Heres the thing though 99% of that driving is open road speed of 100kph so the theory would be good consumption? Only add in a verticle climb of 400metres from a altitude of 400metres already and twisty roads and that must surely make a differance?
