Swampy too old for Insurance

Post by Oscar »

F**king Hell!

Someone's having a laugh....

I wanted to temporarily insure Swampy for a month while I get Lolife sorted out, but it's now too old for Royal and Sun Alliance (via broker Routen Chaplin) to insure on the current policy......

Who can do cheap classic insurance? Or should I just give up, scrap both, and buy a ZX?

Dont give up Oscar, try Adrian Flux.I insured my little Visa fully comp with them for £120 a year. They will consider the Bx as a ""modern classic" no problem.

I renewed the Mk1 GT last week with Footman James for £118.00, worth giving them a try, that and Lancaster Insurance who do the 16TRS for £105 and the SD1 for £98!

Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....

Hang on a minute - I'm with Adrian Flux and I pay £234 - for a modified vehicle! (Kept off road, rural location, 31 y/o, full no claims, TPF&T). Does the part of the country make that much difference or have you got loads of points?

Peter D James are also good. Same chap who was behind Footman James, but a smaller operation with good premiums.

Carole Nash is another one.

I'm currently with Footman James - £137 for four cars with business cover.

^^bx> Lancaster insurance. Got my 16 valve for £90 fully comp its 21 yrs old so qualifies for classic insurance perhaps your car is considered too old for normal car insurance and too young for classic insurance.

When I had my Aussie niece over the insurers all told me they didn't cover oz drivers for loaned cars (one of my Xantias).

My local broker got round that in a minute.

We wrote out an invoice for her to buy the car, as owner she could insure it, then he fixed her up with a full year insurance on the computer for around £440, and immediately cancelled it, again on the computer for the end of the first month, took her £48 payment for the one month and issued the cover note.

When she went home the invoice was torn up and the car was back in my yard. Gibbo.

To be honest, where Oscar lives is probably going to incur a high penalty. Even where I live at the posh end of town :D  I have to pay £160 a year for what is effectively TPFT. . Mine's with Tescos and they didn't bat an eyelid in giving me temporary cover on my old 19RD. Did your own insurance get hammered by the missus' prang?

There will be an answer.

Footman James don't want to know if the car isn't kept off-road.

I've come across this with Insurance companies before - When I was running an H Van Camper a mate of mine with a similar vehicle was insured with Footman James so I gave them a call. His insurance - late 50's, no points or claims, disabled driver, kept on drive = £80 :D .My quote - early 30's, no points or claims, kept on drived = £250 :? :x . Both vans were the same mechanical spec, same size, mine was actually valued at a couple of grand less then his and we lived less than a mile apart!

I'm using Sureterm at the moment as they will give you a classic policy with all the benefits of such a thing, a 12K mileage limit & uses your no claims bonus 8), but as most of my daily drivers over the last 15 years have been at least 20 years old I've used other companies and found Lancaster are also good at this sort of thing.

Cheers Steve

All the 8 yrs NCB is used on Lowlife, Lena's only had a licence for two years and she pranged a Mercedes van last November, so I guess that's screwing us.

Time to simplify my life. One of them has to go.

Everything I've thought of saying is wholly inappropriate, so I'm having my second thoughts first.

Edit  :)
