There some hefty argurments going on the 16v site about cars being broken for engines! Hope we dont end up like it. Mainly about that mint mk2 that has been broken up for spares when it was in fine order.

Ther will always be people who see a car as an attractive source of spares / income - and other people who see the car as a thing of beauty to be preserved and enjoyed as it is.

The sad thing about the BX 16valver is the engine so readilly fits into the Pug 205 and is seen by many as the ultimate upgrade - and sadly for lovers of the BX there seem to be more 205 owners / enthusiatsts / barrys than there are lovers of the BX 16v. :(

The main issue is that the car was offered as a complete car and when interest was shown the owner then broke it anyway - basically he broke his word.
Call me old fashioned but I like my words to hold true.

Yup had the offerer held his word and allowed the interest in the car to happen he could have sold it for what he asked and bought another complete 405mi of ebay for significantly less and made more money! but he broke his word and broke the very nice looking bx (which is on ebay for parts) just for the engine and loom!!
the words for that sort of person are un usable on a forum!
but at the end of the day, Would you trust anyone who breaks there word! (more than once!!)

Its very easy to think that we should all be custodians of a piece of motoring history and that we should all try and keep the things going for ever. However the thing is only ultimately a carefully manufacturered product and those who made it superceded it years ago and have made millions of other cars since.

Yes its right that some cars should be preserved but in fact 16 valves are still relatively common and if good ones are available for £700 or so than it would suggest to me that there are plenty to satisfy the demand at the moment. If the demand increases in the future - great and the price will go up which can really only be good for all of us.

The fact is that no-one from this board seems to have shown any serious interest in purchasing it promptly for something approaching the asking price and it looks as though that was the reaction form the 16 valve board as well. Shame when a nice car is broken, shame when it rusts away, shame when we throw obsolete but working computers and periferals away but that's life isn't it.

sorry for this but did you read my post??? the bit about the interest in the car?????
it was infact Mr Fearn from this site also that was the one interested in the car!
http://www.bx16v.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2383
thats the link to the thread, have a look and you can see for your self!!!
The guy who offered the car broke his word, Now that isnt a gentlemanly thing to do! Now inthe past the chap has offered parts to members but when anyone has tried to get hold of him they have had no joy only to find he pops back up to announce the car crushed! He has also boasted on another forum that its been a good year for him as he has crushed 7 16v's! The general feeling was thathe offered the car to us not expecting anyone to be interested, but as soon as there was he wasnt interested!
as i said have a lookat the thread and judge for your self!
Sorry to have a go but i do find it annoying when people blatently miss the point!

If the car was as good as described especially with mot i'd have happily given him the 700quid he wanted for it!

I was p1ssed off with him because he completely ignored all my attempts to contact him. Not even a cursory explanation.

Anyway, its water under the bridge now and the car has been raped.

:( Ive seen loads of so-called minters with good bodies but what people forget is what you cant see on the inside. Alot of them have had corrosion in places such as the rear chassis legs and boot floors and also on the seams behind the rear doors so unless your handy with a welder your in to big money

Its never nice to have a guy break his word when he has publicly stated something, but he`s only harming his own integrity, thankfully the group of guys in this club seem to be made of sterner stuff. Sad to see a nice car broken but I too have killed more than a few BXs

I seriously agree with Rob.

Its amazing how many BX's i've seen in supposedly rust free condition. The owner obviously missed the fact his rear arches and front door hinges dont exist anymore!

I looked at a dark grey 16v last weekend that used to cruise around my local area when i was younger. The owner had just completed a lot of work including an engine re-build. The front door fell off in my hand and the windscreen pillar was rotten. I didnt bother looking any further but this is a perfect donor car for a 205, not a low mileage, full history minter :(

:) Here ar my 2 16v,s pictured in this topic. The red one came from budleigh salterton and i had looked at loads previously. It is COMPLETLY CORROSION FREE AND UNDERSEALED. The green one came up by chance after looking at a few for a second car. Granted its done 174,000 miles and does hav a few minor rust spots which have been delt with it to is UNDERSEALED. Im hoping one day they will make top money if kept on top off.

It was his property to do as he wanted with. There are loads of 16V cars around. Supply exceeds demand. The same is true for all BXs. Even near mint diesel estates cannot be given away and as a preservation organisation, we have probably scrapped more BXs than any other outfit.

If a sixteen valve 205 is a more attractive car than a sixteen valve BX (and I can see why it might be,) then that is just the way it is and if people wish to get all self righteous about other peoples' property then they are a sad lot indeed.

NB. If I wanted a donor car for a special, I'd get the best one I could find!
The shagged car is the one most likely to have the shagged engine.

It might be worth getting some pointers set out here, as casting dispersions on a topic on another forum, and then trying to start it here is something i would consider a fau par.

The 'arguement' thread doesn't contain ANY arguements at all, opinions maybe, emotions yes but there are no arguments!

The thread to which i believe Mr Leech refers has become enflamed due to the way in which an outsider has acted. While opinions have been expressed that we should be saving a car which IS NOT common, i don't know of anyone who feels there is a grate deal we can do about scrapping the model, nor are they suggesting that every single motor should be saved!

The main issue here is that an outside member is regulalry coming into the BX forum and trying to cause trouble. For those who haven't bothered to research this regulalry appearing subject, this is NOT the first time this guy has come on, said one thing then changed his mind, he's also caused people grate wastes of time money and resources by changing his mind every three seconds.

The outsider is also only interested in the car for making profit and is also bringing the 205 world into disrepute with which he has very tenuous links. The 205 Drivers are a grate group of people and not represented by this one individual.

I see no reason why an issue from another forum shoudl really be brought here in such a negative light. Lets face it, if everyone in this forum wanted a BX16v then we'd all have one and be on the 16v forum and we wouldnt have the BX CLub (which IMHO is much better) and there wouldn't be a problem with cars going to scrap as the price would go through the roof!
