Time to merge from the 16v forum?
The 16v forum seems to have gone all quiet. I remember long ago when it was bx16v.com, and I used to waste many hours at work reading it. It was a lot busier then - seems to be very little going on now.
Would it be a good idea to merge these two forums? Possibly with a dedicated 16v tech section etc? United we stand...

How about we merge all the European BX Clubs into a 'Union?'
I think that's a good idea with the 16v forum, though what form it would take would be another issue. Most important is all the 16v technical know how.
I also think that some 16v owners consider that it's a completely different car to the 'normal' BX, otherwise they would have joined us already..
Apparently there's another BX website in the Uk too? The BX Rejects or something? I think we should all unite in a big BX union and sing Christmas carols, locked arm in arm!

I agree having a splinter group for the 16v section is bit needless, but you have to remember the core of that forum (who aren't really around much anymore) started off some time before this one, so in some respects this forum is the newer one.
The original 16v forum died a death through lack of updates etc, as all forums do. I believe the owner/moderator was reluctant to share his baby with others, and didn't have the time himself to put into it.
The current forum was created mainly by Luke, who is himself an original 16v forum member. I believe he doesn't get around it updating it every 5mins through health reasons, which in a way makes merging a good idea as it lightens the load somewhat. The current forum has some fantastic downloadable content on there, but forum content is on the thin side, as are members. Some of the 16v members also frequent this site, and if there any who don't because they believe a 16v is special and a non-16v BX isn't, then they're obviously off in some little fantasy world and best leave them to it. The only other reason many don't frequent this forum is it's got a repuation as the TZD Turbo forum, which doesn't exactly sound exciting! However, I know this isn't the case - there is a wide variety of models here.
The 16v doesn't need a specific section, it's no more complex or fragile than a regular BX (unless you're a tart). It's just louder, faster and more expensive! Our BXC forum is extremely basic in it's layout, but in fairness aside from researching and resources, it works.

Well funnily enough I reckon 16v's are probably one of the more common models out there. Not on diesel levels, but I think the 16v is starting (and I mean literally, just starting) to be left alone in its own right. The fact the engine is less powerful and weaker than the Xsara VTS lump means the VTS lump is favoured over the BX's, and the Xsara is devoid of any character so no one thinks twice about chopping them up (shame - the VTS is an awesome all round hot hatch).Roverman wrote:I think Kitch has it spot on there, they are all BX's just with different engines etc so its open to everyone, there isnt enough 16v's left I think these days to make one forum busy enough and I know Luke doesnt suffer wth good health these days.
Cars like the GT, 19TRS, TRi and early 14's are probably rarer than the 16v now I would think. I reckon there are enough owners around to make a thriving owner's club section, but I just think alienating a certain model because it's different is silly (even if they've alienated themselves). The early 14's had an engine that lay on it's back practically, and a gearbox in the sump. It's got less in common with all BX's than any other model. And even the later 14s were TU-powered.....all BX models 15 and up were XU, including 16v. So which is more different?
Bottom-line (and I do agree with you Tim) is that I think one club for the BX is enough. What it boils down to though is whether everyone's happy as they are. If they are, then why change it?

Maybe historical posts and tech data could be put in a separate sub forum (perhaps easier than integrating it with the existing sections?) and the existing 16v members encouraged to be brave and post on here as it is...
TZD Turbo forum eh? I guess there have been a few threads enthusiastically pointing out their virtues! But yeah, its a broad church so a few more 16V owners would redress the balance.

the only oyher decent BX forum in the UK I have ever come across is the BXproject.
But be careful if you visit though,
it can be bit too much fun for some peoples tastes

Hmmm, the three UK Forums are very different.
The BX16v.com/BX16valve.com forum is by far the oldest (around in the days of the Q&A Forum) originally setup by one person and still has most of its original members. There are almost an equal number of foreign members as there are UK members. It's a very busy forum but mostly from lurkers. From a system point of view it is very well looked after (regular backups, visited daily by at least a moderator etc) and hence quite reliable. The owner still has an active interest in the model and the running and pays all the running costs. The 16v forum is for the 16valve, most of what can be said has been, and most of the new content is for technical modifications (superchargers, 6-speed gearbox etc). These are mostly very much loved cars. Of the UK members, i've probably met 30+ over the last ten years although socials have dried up a little.
The BXClub started way back as the AndySpares forum then the GSF Forum and recently the BXClub forum. It has always been a bit of a pick it up, put it down forum. The vast majority of the very high number of users only turn up to solve a single problem then vanish again. The remaining clan are pretty devoted to the idea of the BX and a few very devoted to the car its self. It covers the whole range of cars but is best geared for the daily drive cars aka the diesels. There are a core of members who will use any excuse to get out and socialise, but there normally day trippers and probably amount for less than 5% of the total membership.
The BXProject forum (not the website, god that's antique) should really be called the BXPub, because that's what it is! I think only two of the membership have working BXies on the road, but all are drunks, social, willing to help others and could probably build the titanic from scrap BX's if we can stay sober long enough! BXRejects strikes me as quite an affectionate name since the original cast where all banned from the BXClub at one point or another for having the gaul to speak there minds, but these days everyone plays nice over here because we can vent else where!
I'm not sure the forums should be merged, there all very, very different, with rather different memberships.
The BX16v forum has always been rather quiet, but its been known to not have a single post for three months, then suddenly fires back up and becomes lively again, it's been that way for ever. Quite frankly i don't think you'll get the membership of the BX16v to migrate over here and will simply be lost instead.
It terms of uniting for socials, well the BXParty tent normally draws in all the over night revellers regardless of colour or creed, and long may it continue. Though if your petrified of a gentle ribbing, you'll probably be uncomfortable until the first bottle of wine is consumed.
In terms of websites, the BX16v does get changed from time to time but normally in subtle ways. The BXP gets changed semi often when i'm working on the car, but as i haven't been working on the car much, the website hasn't changed much. It's actually the longest running UK based BX only website but has only ever really been a play thing for me to develop web authoring skills on. The BXC website hasn't been updated since 2008, despite multiple offers and requests.
To really unify the BX Community (at home and abroad) we really need to bring all the content together, the brochures of the BX16Valve, the workshop manuals and technical data stored on the BXP and some great articles on the BXClub. Normally i get shot down for making this suggestion, but i'll put it out there again.
