Speedo Cables

Chatting to Mike P yesterday when collecing BX bits he suggested about getting a costing for new upper cables, they are no longer available new and and as we all know hey dont last forever. My 19TZI is quite "vocal" so im sure it will be going ping before long.

So what do we think about contacting the likes of "speedy cables" and get some made up, I imagine if they make a fair few the cost would be more effective?.

Suggestions?

Thats a damnd good idea, ive found the odd second hand 1 at breakers but once theve gone etc? Be good to get a costing at least so we know and see how many we need to get produced. What are folks willing to pay ?

How much were citroen oem one's, i'm guessing if they are around a similar price they should be sellers, as there would be no other choice?

The last ones I bought were from gsf and were about £15ish, but needs must, if it meant double that I would do.

I bought a diesel upper speedo from Citroen last year no probs. Can't remember the price though... 50 odd notes I think

Have you tried running a light lubricant (3-in-1 oil) down it, that should quieten it and prolong it's life.
When you disconnect the speedo, the cable has an almost perfect "funnel" on it to allow the oil to gradually slip down the cable as an overnight job.

I don't currently need one but I tink it is a great idea to look into remanufacture of NLA parts and I am keen to support the idea. Please count me in for a stock item.

If anyone has a spare top cable (used) we could use as a template?

Anyone suggest a decent cable maker. I know of speedy cables.

What we need is a one to use as a template, and an idea of numbers, I am happy to contact speedy cables, but dont have a cable

(unless I take one out of my car and I am not willing to do that!)

If anyone has a top cable going spare let me know.

The technical man there is on holiday, ringing back tomorrow. They said making one up is no problem if we have an old one.

Do we need just top? or both, they did say the more we order the cheaper they will be.

So any takers please raise there hands, it will be payment up front I imagine, I am happy to do the leg work but wont be able to buy a load, store then sell them off when people need them. I would suggest getting a spare just in case.

I think you would have more responses if you give a guide price, I think most people would if they were a fiver but not if they were £100! OK, so I'm exaggerating, and Speedy will need to know numbers to give a price so it's catch-22 in a way. But maybe they can give a price based on 5, and another based on 10 orders?
