I was driving up a slight rise towards traffic lights, just over 30 mph ( speedo reading ) and the motor was struggling to go up it !
That's when I realised I was still in 5th gear

Re: Struggle
When my gran bought her first car with a 5 speed 'box, she couldn't understand why when she only ever used the first 3 - turned out she was shifting from 2nd to 5th

I cant talk there is nothing worse that missing a gear when you are on a steep hill with 30 odd pairs eyes watching you and a tail of cars behind you. Worse when you do it in front of you co workers who nearly slams into the back of you.

Re: Struggle
While the pedal box was knackered on my TGD I found I could do pretty much everything I needed to do in 3rd gear; why anyone would need to go any faster than 30mph is beyond me. Complete madness!

Re: Struggle
On routes I know well and where I can predict my speed with some certainty, I'm happy to allow the revs down below tickover speed to as low as 700 - around roundabouts for example - before easing the power in gently to pull away again.
