Second time's a charm---have i forgotten something?

Post by B-Hive »

Well it has been several months since last attempted to recover the TRS MK1..

So here we go again....Heading off this Saturday ...1200km...to Adelaide ...I have a plan/technique... and a support network of one (thanks Dicky) ...I am confident that (weather not withstanding), I will perform my BX octopus vasectomy and tie/bypass a few return tubes.. Biggest job will be replacing a tube onto the front height corrector as it can be a fiddle with the wrong sort of hose/clamp....but if i can ascertain that the connection/pipe onto the height corrector is okay I may be able to cut and splint the pipe within easier reach....

also as much as I had bought a fresh battery for the car, it may be now flat..so will be taking a fully charged one,, a battery charger, a bevy of hoses and clamps, a spare ignition module, a tarp to lay on, a couple of spare tyres,, spare radiator hose/cap..tools ..axle stands...jack....

Have I forgotten anything????

Hope you manage to get it going again! It was a beautiful car IIRC.

You'll need more than luck, that pipe is about 3 inches long with no slack and no easy reach!

Good luck though!

True True,,it was just a wild thought..

Instead of even trying to faff around with it I'll pull the pipe off cleanly...yes access isnt great but not too hideous,, I must have small hands..

If it doesn't all come together, I may well donate the car to Dicky if he wants it...but fingers crossed...dam this vast country with its massive spaces between places...

when performing keyhole surgery in this area i always disconnect the track roc from the hub and wind the steering hard left, this gives more room to get the other hand involved in the proceeding's

I made it!!!

Smiles all around :D :D :D

I pulled into my driveway at 6 this evening after a trouble free and thoroughly enjoyable 1200km drive.

The repair that was required was really very simple and largely down to me over-looking the obvious the first time this task was tackled..So yes octopus stayed put and
with a little bit of creative plumbing and further revision, she was LHM fast.

What also had happened in the last few months was one of the front spheres had gone flat.
It was never going to be an option to drive such a long way with a rock hard sphere.

Many thanks must go to Dicky665 from here, whom I had the pleasure of meeting, AND who offered up his spare sphere for loan or eventual swap when I get a new one.
Such generosity was heart warming. I also got to paw over his GT, and chat (albeit briefly)..
So we fitted the newie sphere at Dicky's and checked for more leaks etc..

Then next day..after returning my free (relocation) hire camper and getting back to where the TRS was, it was past 3pm...so i decided to drive as far as I could whilst it was still light and finalise the trip today.

This decision was down to the fact that I was well tired enough after my day's logistics AND the car's headlights offered only parking lights or high beam..So not ideal..

It was not long into the trip when I settled in knowing that this little TRS was not going to give me any problems..

The verdict!!..The car's very low milage meant that everything was so tight and fresh.

Engine sweet, gearbox tight, supple quiet chassis, steering delightful. Its probably the closest thing to driving a new BX..

I think the only thing that let it down was the noisy retread tyres.. but thats an easy fix with some nice new Michies...

The ride was absolutely lovely,, a real pleasure and the Km's just melted away..That said I still think she could be even better with fresh spheres all round as well as a new accumulator.. (regulator super busy)..

Even the aircond still had a little gas left and runs the new stuff..

So there you go...I won't say the whole operation was easy and seem-less, because it wasn't, but once on the road and heading back home it all became very worthwhile..

But thats it NO MORE...3 BXs are quite enough
