abs sensor

Post by fast16v »

hi all. new to forums, have 91 16v imported to ireland, full respray, engine out, rings, seals, belts wheels refurbished and badly need front passenger side abs sensor, non existent in ireland, local garage had 2 16vs crashed for ages and council made them crush them 6 months before i got mine.
Not impressed. Cant go on road legally til i get one are there any still in existence out there?
Thanks.

Think a new one sold on eBay a few months back went for silly money...

Have you checked the wiring - it's quite a common cause of ABS light being on, I think

You could always wire an appropriate valued resistor in so the light stays off - [-X
I got my old Saab 9000 through doing this - light stayed out until the speed went over about 15mph

Possibly its just a broken wire somewhere.
Problem is in finding it.
Good luck

Not a red one by chance is it?

If it's just to get an MOT, I can tell you how to wire a resistor in so it will pass the test. Not ideal, but these days finding sensors is nearly impossible.

Are there any places out there that can re-make them? Surely there would be a reasonable demand from club members to have an order for spares purposes, as they are bound to stop working at some point & by then its too bleedin late to get anything? I had a bid on that e-bay one, just for this very purpose, incase there was an engineering firm out their that could make them after examining the new one, but i've already been outbid :(

it's not usually the sensor that fails, but the cable, which should be easy enough to replace in all honesty

I've had a bid on that, with the intention to use it as a sample for companies to quote against for manufacturing aftermarket.

Doesn't the sensor also just crumble with age if you go anywhere near it, so you're right Doc, its usually the cable, but go anywhere nr to it & the whole thing is dust :(

I won't bid against you Mike :) Are you currently winning?

The seller can keep it then, i'm sure we can get our hands on a 2nd hand one that works for a fraction of the price & get that inspected instead, a new one would be preferable, but not at stupid money though.

I've not looked at these (never had a vehicle modern enough to have ABS!) but would there be a sensor from another car that could be adapted to fit?
