He doesnt have any noclaims in his name but as you say Ian I imagine it will rocket up next year.

Hay Peeps

Sorry I haven't posted by been a stressful and miserable week, but the BX is safely home so iv stripped the front and whipped the wings off (which i shouldn't have done as its shown some rust patches Damn!). Now all i have left to do is drill the spot welds off the front so i can ease the mangled front out and source a new front, which i may have sourced thanks to Tim Leech.

although i still need to source:

6 blade fan
9 blade fan
plastic strip that goes on the cross member holding the air intake pipe
bumper fog light lens (luckily only one broke)
bonnet release tag
and possibly more as I'm not at home so cant remember all

Also thanks for all the support guys its really helped me :D

Glad to hear the old girl is going to get repaired George, would have been a real shame to see it cubed. The most important thing is that you're ok. We all learn from our errors, I've had plenty of bumps and scrapes in 25 years of motoring, albeit most of them whilst travelling sideways in Capri's and MK2 Escort's. :)

Don't have any bits I'm afraid, but if it's got twin fans, you should be able to get away with 1 for now until you go towing something big again. I'd also leave the fogs for now aswell, just concentrate on the its needed to get it driveable.

Let me guess on the rust, either under the LHM tank, plus the same spot the other side, or under the washer bottles!

I think you will only need one fan (the 2nd one was a dealer fit accessory when a towbar is fitted) for every day use George, I imagine someone must have one?

George now has a few of the bits he required from me, mainly all of the front panels by way of cutting the entire front off my scrap white TGD! Wish I'd taken pictures of the process; I started stripping the front end to allow access, and had this done in about two hours. Then George's dad got busy with an angle grinder, and an hour of so later there was a somewhat lighter BX, with excellent engine access! We also managed to salvage a 6-blade cooling fan assembly, the plastic strip at the top of the radiator, and the bonnet safety hook release.

What struck me was how the majority of fixings came undone easily; only a few were rusted solid. Also, once the front wings were removed, some serious hidden corrosion was revealed on the inner wings. I'll take some pics tomorrow if anyone's interested...

Fortunately, the panels George took were virtually rot-free...

Pictures of the donor as requested!

I think something may be missing here...

This sort of engine access usually only comes with 2CVs and GS/As!

The rot on the offside. Not quite visible is the usual rot around the top door hinge, and there is also corrosion at the base of the screen pillar. The nearside hasn't suffered at all, other than the door hinge.
