Dont worry too much bud, it will melt.

Had a great deal of fun driving my 4x4 around tonight at much greater speeds that any BX could achieve in similar conditions. Back to sanity now, awaiting a further dump of snow tonight.

:) I meant I love driving it in the snow, Hull is reasonably flat, not many big hills to contend with... and the missing it bit; I was referring to was when I sell it :(

Going quickly in your 4x4 is all well and good, but so many of them seem to come a cropper when it comes to slowing down again...

I've been out in the BX again today. The compacted snow has frozen overnight so it's proper tricky in places. Thankfully very few people are driving, though I did see an Audi TT completely stuck on an icy incline - some friends had already stopped to help them. I've found it a real education finding the limits of these winter tyres. On compacted ice, you've got a very minor advantage over normal tyres - still sod all traction but better when braking. Still had a few manual-ABS moments. The best thing to do is steer for the snowier bits in the middle of the road and at the edges, as the winter tyres find traction there.

Almost didn't get out at all. I stopped at the end of our driveway to let my wife get out and make sure the road was clear. I couldn't move away again due to the compacted ice. Reversed to find traction and I was away.

Ime very carefull where i speed in snow Ian. Only areas i know well and can see that there is no traffic around or on the horizon nor where there are any corners. Do practice the sliding stop though, great fun. Also, stop starting on slopes covered with snow and ice and so far no problems. Mind you, its been snowing all day here with no sign of it stopping as yet and all the roads are bad, even the main ones.We must have over 6 ins here now.

The big problem here is drifts. 6ft ones in places. That front splitter really has to go as it just acts like a big scoop!

I always look for fresh snow to drive on, theres a lot more grip rather than running in the tracks of other cars which compact the snow to create a very slippery surface. I found doing 60mph no problem at all & was doing some brake testing as well & the car would lose speed quite quickly, not as much as if i was on a dry road, so just kept the speed up where appropriate. I was the fastest thing out there by miles inc the 4x4 brigade. This isn't a boast, its just that the majority of people were going way too slow for the conditions (this was clearly their limit) & they were still bunched up too close to each other at those slow speeds, so were much more likely to have an accident than me going quicker than them. I suppose it all comes down to confidence at the end of the day, a lot will always drive super slow as any faster & its out of their comfort zone. Its the same with trackdays, most people have never driven at high speed & especially round corners/bends, so to them it must feel frightening. I've been having fun whilst the majority seem to be fretting, i'm looking forward to the dump of snow tonight :)

I looked at the Honda & initially thought no way, but noticed that where the dials were it was bright green & the Honda wasn't, so i knew someone was kidding :)

The 2nd piccy makes more sense, did you have any handlebar shakes at that speed?

rock steady..... so I'm told ;)

they don't do that in the snow though, there's a video fast bikes mach 3 and one one of the riders taking these things across europe, slings it down the rode in the snow. So still on topic ;)

My snow tyres are excellent too - but I keep my speed down to what would be achievable with ordinary tyres unless there's absolutely no-one else around - anyone seeing the speed I'm capable of might think it's ok for them to go that fast as well and come seriously unstuck. Particularly the case if it's someone following who gets the wrong idea - I certainly don't want them attacking my towbar.

Braver man than me to do that kinda speed. Two guys near my house had an off at half that speed and were both killed last year, one was decapitated....
