Power loss after glo plug change

Post by BXJACCO »

Hi all, yesterday I changed two glo plugs on my 1.9 estate as the old two was not working
And yes it was the two awkward ones behind the carb. To do this I had to take a cable bracket off which had two screws a star screw and a hex think the cable is auto choke.
As I was doing so a I accidentally knocked of a small hose which seemed to make a kind of air suction noise for a few secs and then stopped. So all is back together and starting lovely, problem is now it seems to be struggling to get up to speed and just doesn't seem as pokey.. I'm thinking air lock in the fuel system. Any ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated, many thanks BXJACCO

hi and welcome

it sounds like you have a vacuum leak first thought would be the D shaped seal that seals the intercooler to the inlet manifold not sealing,

these tend to fall out of the groove in the intercooler as you re/fit it, or they swell up as they get soaked in oil, then they dont fit back in the grove properly,

otherwise there is a vacuum pipe not attached or split somewhere, probably in the area you were working

were are you located

He says 1.9 so presumably no intercooler. Sorry I can't offer anything!

Thanks for your reply, I'm based in Leicester but as a lorry driver get around and about five days of the week. And yes it's the 1.9 tgd estate. All was fine until I replaced two plugs. on route to work this morning it just didn't feel right, hopefully when I get back it is still daylight to diagnose the problem
Thanks again BXJACCO

1.9 TGD "behind the carb" ? No carb on a TGD :?

The small hose is probably the turbo boost hose to the fuel pump boost diaphram, this shouldn't be under vacuum when not running.

There's no turbo! By carb, I assume he means injector pump thing. Are all hoses present and correct to the injectors?

Yes sorry, none turbo and by carb I meant fuel pump.. Anyway problem solved chaps it must have been an airlock as I have just undone the 17mm on top of pump gave it some revs and tightend back up. All seems well. thanks for all your replys
