Difference Between 19 TGD and 19TXD

Post by Stuarted »

Not sure if I should post this here or in 'BX Technical' but here goes.

Does anyone know where I can learn what the mechanical differences are (if any) - as distinct from trim differences - between a J-reg 19 TGD and a K-reg TXD diesel estate, please?

My newly acquired TXD has a much harder ride and seems rather more thirsty than my old TGD, but this may be because it needs attention.

Many thanks!

No mechanical differences, though there might be random differences such as Bosch vs Lucas (luck of the draw, not spec related). The suspension could be many things from wrong spheres to just being worn out.

Thanks - that's just the clarification I was seeking.

Have now started the car up and "bounced" each corner - rear is a bit stiff and one front corner is rock solid, so among all the other bits I am going to salvage off my old TGD will be all the spheres.

At this rate, all the scrappy will get wil be an empty, stripped bodyshell with just a lonely, bare, waterlogged and seized-up cylinder block and crankcase lying in the front!

As Ian says a TGD and TXD are mechanically the same, it was just a few pretty bits added when the car was getting on to keep sales up.

This is the point I lay claim to the only TXD Hatchback on the road in New Zealand :)

Interesting about the fuel economy, what I have noticed about the TXD is it like to travel at 90-95kph (56mph) and in return gives me a better fuel efficancy of a substantial amount. Either that or the long hot summer temps have thinned the diesel down enough to give a better burn?

Sorry nothing else can input on this as this is the first Diesel BX I have owned of the dozen or so over the last 20 years. I like it though.

Yep, I don't have the figures to hand, but I think the 19D fuel figures for 56mph was somewhere close to 60mpg, while I can attest to the fact that at 70+mph (only on the Peage your honour  ) it drops to around 40!

I would imagine its over 60mpg doing 56mpg, even better if you have a light foot, ease off the throttle early when coming to junctions, roundabouts etc... & stay in as high a gear as possible. Even going to work & back on a mixture of A, B & dual carriageway roads & usual traffic my TXD gets 50-53mpg :) So on a long run driving at below 60mph, it will be v-economical.

48mpg was my 1.9D average, though I managed 54mpg on a run once. I'm a bit of a foot-to-the-floor type though.

In a n/a the throttle will always be flat to floor, i just lift off when the revs hit 2k when driving in eco mode, & if i want to get shifting a bit more then 3k & if i'm thrashing like this evening, all the way into the red, oops!!!
