Scrap prices.

Post by Jaba »

I am in the process of scrapping my TD Estate. The best scrap price I can find online is £75 from ASM.
Is this the best I can expect these days for a collect and pay service ?
Any suggestions for another scrapper to try?

The issue is having it collected, which is what costs the most, that sounds a fair price to me. Last year I scrapped a Mk4 Golf through work and I drove it over the bridge myself and got about 85!

i have used this sight a few times now,

http://www.motorwise.com/

and unlike a lot of these sights all you need to enter is reg if the doomed jalopy and post code,

a Xant estate i got £181 collected when my local breakers offered me £100 if i drove it to them,
then about a year later a Xant hatch ( the head was in the boot ) i got £160 collected,

another company that seem to give a good price ( one that Motorwise use ) is

http://www.scrapco.co.uk/

if there near enough to you

what wrong with the doomed jalopy

Fascinating, I looked at Motorwise and for the BX I'd get £21.00 in Congleton and £87.00 in Tonbridge which is quite a variation.

A BX shell is worth about £3. I gave the last one away to the guy who picked it up. Early Christmas pressie!

the quoted price obviously relates to the distance from there usually rounds/collection area

I am no help on local yards. I have two cars to scrap, but I have not actually weighed one in for a fair time now. I am out of touch. Then, I took it to Whitecross at Wootton, the Oxford one, I got £89 for a Merc Fintail shell full of scrap steel. Not a huge amount for perhaps 11/2 tons. But they do value the whole, as engine blocks and such are better quality steel/ali, than bodyshells. If you have a load of engines you get more cash than the same weight in mixed rust. Whitecross is also convenient to you, if the car is mobile or on a trailer. Not sure who collects round here either. Used to be Brakespear, but that is a generation on now, as the brothers have both semi retired. The one in Charlton owned the local mobile cubing machine.
