MK1 16RS Leader

Post by mike22861 »

C421FBA the one and only Mk1 16RS leader is going to have a home with me.
I think with this one I will get it fully restored so it will probably be away for a bit
Sadly I also think its going to need a few parts certainly both front doors have had some damage.
I might do this as a blog once progress gets started

Some pics from a previous sale are here http://www.bxclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic ... 11&t=15521

I've never owed a Mk1 so watch this space just watch it slowly

Hi Mike

They are a different but enjoyable driving experience, a lot more floaty and lighter to drives, especially in petrol form.
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....

I've put a few feelers out regarding a restore ,Chevronics being one of them or a few local specialist places I have to keep a bit of an eye on cost as there is a very special BX that I want to buy but is worth a few arms and legs. However I think the leader would look good restored .
I probably wont have the car at home until next weekend then I will post up some current pics it's how shall I say battle weary.

Yesterday I did some work on the Leader ,
I finally got the hydraulic system to bleed and pressurize and it came up nicely,
As of this cold and frosty morning it was still at normal height so can't be leaking anywhere too badly
I have ordered a new ignition lock for it as the old one was smashed in the original break in.
everything seems to work except main beam wont hold in the flash works but it wont stay on main
and there is no dash illumination.
This weekend I am going to give it a good clean and some polish to protect the remaining paint see what's needed for MOT

On the facebook forum the argument rages as to weather it should have a 16RS badge , a boot spoiler leader decal and indeed a rear wash wipe.
I await definitive answers if any exist on a French car

Ive just realized the lack of dash illumination is due to the rheostat not being in place as the under steering trim panel is off waiting for the new ignition switch

I'm not sure whether any BX sold in the UK failed to have a rear wash wipe. I know the base 14 had none, which is why the ones sold here were a trim level up. My 14RE had the wipe and electric front windows!. I expect the same with a 16, however there must be a 14 Leader out there....just for confusion the 14 Leader could be an RE too I believe...
The give away may be the gearbox, the 14RE had a 5 speed box the base one a 4 speed. If you have 5 gears, chances are it had a wash wipe,
likely they did the same with the 16......just have to check out some original specifications. Not personally seen a 16 Leader on the road, loads of the 14 versions.. around London once upon a time.

It shouldn't be, reverse should be up next to 1st. It's possible someone's fitted a later box.
