Failed a WOF

Post by kiwi »

Bolloxs.

My track record of passes on all my vehicles has come to an end after over 5 years! Scraping through was not going to cut it this time and it was not the one I am still expecting to fail on something. No it was my TXD she failed on lower ball joint on near side and got an advisory about steering track rod on the drivers side.

So another couple of days toiling under a car fixing something.

That's not too bad tho lower ball joints can be buggers to get out sometimes requiring removal of the hub carrier with the aid of a big vice and some big pipe grips. Would advise changing the track rod end as a worn one can be bad news if it gives out, should be a couple of hours work.
How do you get on for spare parts in NZ?

The ball joint was a prick! I choose widely and took it into the garage for them to do it. We used what was a near enough new one from the o/s of the BX I took apart a few years ago. Pity it was not the correct side or I just would have done a hub switch.
The old one would not budge until it was heated up. Not much left of it when it eventually came loose! Couple hours labour lot of cursing etc.

The track rod ends I hear you thats on the to do list! near the top! Around about the time that says Winter Tyres go one eg next couple of months.

Parts...hmmm...well lets just say I am hoarding what I can the biggest hassle so far has been the diaphragm for the other diesel I just got. My previous source is no longer around but when I got this latest one to the collection got a very good lead on a supplier. I do need to join up with one the car clubs though make it easier to track parts down.

We have one car to many at the moment but I am not parting with any due to this parts issue. Like I pointed out to my wife if it goes wrong I cant fix it then I need a bigger shed...lol
