New to Forum, Mk1 BX 16V

Post by mac1776 » Thu Nov 29, 2018 1:49 pm

Hi all, just picked up a non running red 89 16 v, all original. My aim is to get her back on the road but it won't be next week!! Bodywork is pretty fine, just in the process of checking the fuel system(where can I get some reasonably priced used/new fuel pipes?) Then will check over the ign prior to attempting a start up. I reckon she has been laid up in Essex for approx 10 years๐Ÿ˜ถ๐Ÿ˜ถ๐Ÿ˜ถ. Once running I will have a better idea of any forthcoming grief๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”, wish me luck, and some!!!
Regards Mac

If its been laid up for that long I would highly recommended that you change the cambelt as the old one maybe perished and if it breaks you could end up in a world of pain and potentially a very expensive repair job.
Try Plaeides they can make the fuel lines for you or Chevronics.

As Cliff says

CAMBELT first!, don't drive it until then! if it snaps you will need an expensive head rebuild.

Rob Moss at Chevronics keeps fuel pipes in stock I think.

And initially I would slip the belt off the hydraulic pump, this will prevent any fluid loss from perished pipes and put less strain on starting, once you've got it running then slip belt back on and see how the hydraulic system performs, I would imagine the spheres would have gone flat so dont expect your brakes and PAS to perform too well, you will need it to lift up if you want get it onto a trailer\trransporter.
