Another one

Post by Kitch »

I expect everyones getting bored of reading threads thanking people, and probably wondering why we don't just use PM's......unlucky.

This is another one to the doc, who drove down from Bristol this morning, arrived in his work clobber and welded up a cheddar gorge of a hole in my sill....then drove straight back and when to work! If it wasn't for him my car wouldn't be on the road this year, but as it is it's going for its 1st attempt at an MOT tomorrow morning, thanks to him.

Cheers mate

Its nearly there now.....

Image

Only jobs left on the list are:

Lots more polish
Sort out squeaky exhaust joint
Sort out knackered exhaust silencer
Sort out power steering
Sort out tappets

Then thats pretty much there......until something else breaks!

Add my name to the list of those indebted to the Doc, gave me help & advice over the phone today, & guess what, it worked.

Top bloke, i hope you make the National day Chris, one things for certain, i doubt you'll need to put your hand in your pocket at the bar, i certainly owe you a few pints.

Cheers Buddy

I don't agree that everyone is getting bored with "Thank You" threads.

Personally I find it really reassuring to know that there are people around who are willing to help each other out, and a public acknowledgement of that help is very welcome.

It also serves to set expectations and to present the public face of BXclub.

So the more such threads, the better, as far as I am concerned.

Well done Doc.

Right, had a bit of a go at some bits yesterday.

The squeaky exhaust joint is going to be a problem, purely because one of the nuts on the downpipe connection to the manifold has rounded off! I'm pretty sure these are all rusty and are causing the squeak. But its nigh-on impossible to get to it with any kind of persuasion tool due to the access :(

I also went against my own advice and used a flushing oil, , before giving the car an oil change. Managed to find a Purflux filter and Total 10w40 oil, and while it is running a bit smoother, the tappets are still really noisey, so the cams will all have to come out soon. Its my own fault that they're like it, as when I rebuilt the engine its the only part I didn't research up on

The rattly exhaust seems to be the cross box near the back....its not even a year old! Must have covered about 4k miles? Bosal one too, so I shall try and dig my receipt out!

Power steering.....that'll have to wait until I've convinced doc to be generous again! Only this time I can take it to him, which he should be relieved about  He's already looked and diagnosed it the pinion valve for sure....it isn't opening or closing!

Also took it out for a short blast yesterday and its going well, although I have a part-time sticky caliper somewhere :(
