Good evening chaps....
I only discovered this splendid site yesterday, but I suspect there will be at least a few here, that frequent the "Autoshite" and "Retro-Rides" forums, so a couple of You may know me from there!
I found this place whilst scouring the internet for another BX....I've owned three so far - an '84 16RS in impala biege which had been upgraded to pretty much TRS spec, an '88 16RS in red, and finally an identical-looking '89 17RD....My Dad also had an impala biege 16RS of '84 vintage, followed by a silver '88 Turbodiesel estate which had covered about a zillion miles, yet performed faultlessly for a good few years until it got replaced by a ZX Volcane Tubodiesel.
I've decided that I want to replace my (utterly fantastic, but rather thirsty) Rover 75 with something old and French, and a fourth BX would be my ideal choice....Thing is, I'd really love another Series 1 saloon, (maybe a 16RS, 16TRS, 17RD, or 19DTR) as I prefer the styling and dashboard design of these cars to the later ones. I realise that they're becoming a bit scarce nowadays - I can't remember the last time I even SAW one, let alone saw one for sale - But was wondering if anyone here could give me an indication of how much a tidy, roadworthy, M.O.T'd example would be worth if I ever found one?
Also, does anyone know if Peter Hall, of Stanton, near Bury St.Edmunds is still in business as an independant Citroen specialist? I always found him very reasonable, always made running my various Citroens (2CV, Dyane, Ami, BX, CX) a very painless and economical experience!
Any series 1 BX-shaped wisdom would be greatly appreciated!

Hello Baz, welcome along! I'm a Mk.1 fan too. There seems to have been quite a few of them changing hands within the club recently for nothing. They do crop up too on Ebay occasionally and the top whack seems to be around 500 sheets for a very good one.
I don't live in the U of K anymore and keep an eye on French Ebay where there are many Mk.1s to be had for not much but that's a bit of a leap unless you're committed and don't mind sitting on the wrong side. Anyway, I'm sure something will come up..

....My '83 R11 GTL 3-Door....I bought this little baby (sight unseen ) off Ebay for £200 in late march this year, it's given sterling service since then, and last week sailed through it's M.O.T without needing so much as a bulb, and without even a single advisory! To say I was chuffed to bits is something of an understatement....This car has grown on me so much that I'm gonna be reluctant to part with it when (if) my R20 ever arrives! Speaking of which, this is the beast itself....
....It's a gorgeous two-owner '79 Renault 20 TS 5-Speed, with only 23,000 miles on the clock....What started out as simple pre-collection M.O.T. preparation, has turned into quite a detailed overhaul (of an already very sound car) which includes the fitting of lowered/uprated suspension, and numerous other new parts....It's gonna be quite a car, I'm just hoping that it turns up soon!
This is the main "family" car....
....My '99 Rover 75 2.5 V6 Connoisseur SE Automatic....A truly beautiful car, with just about every toy You can imagine: CD Autochanger, Sat-Nav, Colour Television etc, etc....It looks great, is fantastically comfy, drives beautifully, is fast, and just feels....Well....Special!
Unfortunately, it's just a little thirsty for my wife (who uses it daily since we passed her Clio onto my stepdaughter, and I bought the R11), so I've taken the decision to find myself something French, interesting, and a little more economical, then get rid....Another car I'll be sorry to see leave....The pain will be easier if I've a nice series 1 BX saloon in the driveway to replace it....Best I post a "Wanted" ad straightaway!
Good to hear that Peter Hall is still about, and at the same address/number as I remember (Well, I remembered once I'd read it! )....That will make running a BX a nice, painless experience....Recommend anyone in that area gives him a try!

Oh, modern Rover's dont do anything for me at all really.
I'd have the MG variant though!
I'm a big fan of the older Rover's, but the later one's were very bland, although as you rightly say, they really are bargain basement cars now, and you do get a lot of car for your money.

No, it's not the Rover I had in mind, it's the previous association that our Doc had between Renault and French toilets used to wind up Cav.tim leech wrote:If its a a Rover 75 you mean Way2go theres nowt wrong with them, unbelievable bargain now too since Rover went bust.
I seem to remember though that many of the Renaults were well fitted and with a full toy box. If I was to pick one for myself though it probably would be the R25 or Safrane.
