Citroën Classic Challenge 2012 dates

Post by Philip Chidlow »

If you are tempted to participate please register your preferred dates.

The dates are for departure from Calais to return to Calais. So it is inferred that you would need to take into account what happens at either end of the Challenge. For 'locals' it's not a problem, but if you have a long trip to the coast, please bear that in mind.

I'd like to register my interest, but cannot commit to any particular dates at this time due to my work contract (lots of time off, but not necessarily when I want to take it :( ). The best I can promise is to let you all know in plenty of time (eg this time next year) if my shift rota is likely to match the dates picked.

Vehicle of choice would either be the GS (great long distance tourer) or the Nomad (just drop the steadies & the rear door on arrival at a campsite, and none of that paying for tents nonsense  )

Ah - that's the other one!

At the risk of boring you all, they built 2 on Dyanes, followed by (depending on who you talk to) up to 8 on Acadianes, of which the one pictured is the prototype and only known survivor. Mine is the 2nd of the 2 Dyane ones, and again the only known survivor.

Currently mine is in a lot of pieces :( , and 3rd in the queue - this will give me something to aim for  .

oooh I am jealous of the DKW and the Marshall ambulance - I had a 2a Dormobile once and nearly bought a DKW Junior.

There was a nice DKW Sonderklasse at the National Microcar Rally last weekend.

Hi all, contact me with route preferences too if you like. I will make a final decision based on feedback at the end of the week.

It's either

The red route (Route A - Jura mountains etc. including a foray into central France)

or

The blue route (Route B - the Alps - including longer stages and possible an extra day).

route A for me - it saves a chunk of driving and a chunk of fuel.

Bear in mind that if you go for route B (which would be my choice) then I'd avoid dates in early May. Based on my (admittedly limited) experience, the higher passes could be closed until late May, and at best the roads are likely to be wet from melting snow...

Given what else is happening in 2012 - (not least the summer school holidays, Olympics, ICCR 2012) - the timing is pretty well closed down to May/June. And earlier is a no-no as it brings its own problems (as you state likely to have no significant Alp access then)...

So. I suggest we forget Route B and do something different to the BXagon and do Route A. Honestly, it'll be different in character, sure, but if someone wants to organise an Alps raid next year - fine. Go for it!

Most of the feedback I've had is for route A anyway. Are you lot really saying you wouldn't? Just because it missed out the Alps?

Best to avoid school holidays which include the ICCR, but I would happily miss the olympics for a tour of France.

As the proposed event will run to SEVEN days, add a day to the dates thus: (I can't edit the poll)

10-15 May becomes 9-15

26-31 May becomes 25-31

13-18 June becomes 12-18

and

22-27 June becomes 21-27
