We are basking in 30 deg weather for the challenge. All apart from Mat - Mr cool with aircon are sweating, but not wilting. All cars are working perfectly.

Much admiration has been shown from the local Citroen fans as we pass through.

Wish you were here xxx
from Team red leader.
The Joy of BX with just one Citroën BX to my name now. Will I sing Bye Bye to my GTI or will it be Till death us do part.

You can keep your nasty 30deg, but please do bring us some sunshine back with you, as well as lots and lots and lots of pictures!

Glad to hear it's all going well :)

They're all having FUN - I bloody knew it! I'm sat here all on my jack, with the rain pouring down, drinking a cold cup of tea, smoking an electric fag with my hands stinking of cutting compound. Well, I'll tell you something Mr 'driving round France in the bloody sunshine having fun' - I'm having fun as well. So there! :( ( :D )

Some pics to be going on with:

Image

It was a wet start at Calais but later in the day dried up and started to get warm!

Image

We stopped by a canal early on Thursday – all the cars except Mikes red 16V are here…

Image

Today we all climbed the first Col successfully - though Tim's engine didn't particularly like the 30° plus temps and about five miles of climbing. We nearly didn't get to go up – this road works closed the road completely for 20 minutes.

Image

Views of Tim's BX, Mike S's GS and the white 16V just before the top.

Great pics! Sounds proper scorchio. Not my cup of tea at all!

The NA diesels aren't massive fans of very steep, lengthy climbs. The Green Tiger got a bit pongy on some of them. Mind you, it wasn't so hot then. We drove through a blizzard on one of the climbs!

Awesome :D

What did the poor GS do to be so ostracised in the second pic?

Sadly doesn't look like you've made it into the Calais newspapers (unless they didn't realise what kind of cars you were driving) - link to Froggy papiers iciif anyone else wants to go huntin' over the next few days.

Mike must have cleverly planned to park over the grass, to hide the oil leaks!

It's not actually ostracised. I think they're having a game of 'may I?' and the green GS is 'on'.

Some more pics from yesterday. Myself, Mike & Jabba and Matt decided after a lengthy French lunch to go off and explore a local col or two that might be open. First off was the Col de Vars which leads up through the ski resort of Vars – I found that quite eery as it was mostly deserted…

Image

You can see that there was still snow here…

Image

And here's the three cars with the official sign!

Image

Then came the descent the other side and Matt decided he had to stop to take some pics - yes it was a sheer drop the other side of where he was standing.

The descent was spectacular - my brakes smelt so much Matt could smell them following me!

In the valley we stopped at a supermarket. Matt pointed out a small col - the Col du Pontis he'd found in his Michelin atlas - with three chevrons - rather appropriate for Citroens. The Michelin atlas warned of an extra narrow steep and dangerous road. We could not ignore a challenge like that. I have never been up such a steep twisty switchback hairpin ascent - using first gear on many of the corners. We got to to the top meeting only a C15 van coming down - that was a good think as I think Matt leading drove it like a rally stage. And then we took a wrong turn – this led to an unsurfaced track:

Image

Shortly after this we met a Frenchman in a small 4x4. We were feeling adventurous and went on but decided to turn back when it looked as if the track was simply a dead end.
