Well, I might take the train up (and back down). Unless it's possible to drive? I'll probably have a little smooch around whilst there's the opportunity and might do a bit of house-hunting. I wanna a pig and some chickens an' a big ol' cow and then I can live off the fat of the land. Shucks!

Think he's referring to the Snowdon Mountain Railway after arrival.

Where did this sudden fetish for clambering up mountains come from?

I'm kind've working on the assumption that any weekend, however planned, will revolve around BBQ food, beer, and nattering about BX's ad nauseam .......
Sounds good to me - I figure on walking up Snowdon on the way - I'm thinking the Thursday before, poss heading for the coast in the evening and getting a B&B for the night then heading to Anglesey to make camp on the Friday.
I am BXless but more than up for Snowdon, a word of advice parking at Pen y pass which is the logical start point for the PYG / Miners track is £10 per day so it may not be an ideal meeting point for several cars.

The layby at the bottom of the hill next to the Pen y Gwryd hotel is £4 a day.
Great - and thanks for the heads-up on the parking costs.

My pencilled-in plan is to call in to see my folks in South Wales earlier in the week - my cousin Michael will be joining me for Snowdon but will be driving back afterwards (so there'll be 2 cars to park anyway). Then after the weekend wander home when the mood takes me - possibly taking in Cader Idris on the way :-)

'The locals claim that the mountain is haunted, and that anyone who spends the night on top of Cader Idris will wake up either a madman, a poet or drive a BX. Different legends surround the large 'hill', and one of the earliest claims that the giant Idris lived there. Three large stones rest at the foot of the mountain, and legend says that Idris got angry once and kicked them, sending them down the mountain.'

Nobody fancies the Horseshoe trail then? Doesn't take too long, and it's mostly off the tourist track!

 The last time I did stuff like that, I was wearing a baggy green suit and was getting paid lots of dosh to do it.

Anyone that volunteers to do that kind of thing for no good reason needs a healthy dose of close-in phrenology IMHO!

Can we have a "Drinking beer lying down" competition?

That pic is misleading. That's cigarette smoke and the hill's a pile of rubble outside the pub. This is after 11 pints of Scruttocks.

It is rather, there is a 50 to 60ft shear drop on the right of the ridge, which is why they are all on the left i imagine.
