Tech Weekend Ludlow, August 24/25/26th

Post by catsinthewelder »

A discussion on a non-BX forum with fairly high BX ownership gave me an idea,

The VW forum that I lurk round on runs 'techenders' events twice a year at a campsite in Leicestershire. They're great, involving getting keen amateur (and the odd pro) spanner wielders of various abilitys together.

A weekend would involve meeting at the site on Friday then getting drunk while watching some of the really keen types start something major on one of the vans. The Saturday would have the experts showing the beginners how to do a basic service while those middle ability types got on with things they hadn't tryed before, safe in the knowledge that theres a few experts on hand to sort it out if it goes tits up.

Drunk again Saturday night then hopefully make sure everythings reassembled on Sunday morning ready for home.

Could this work for BX's?

edit

I've managed to convince my boss to let me use the facilities at work so long as we behave and don't annoy the neighbours or leave a mess.

I'll send directions by PM to those who want to come :D

2nd edit, I put 10th-12th August then looked to see if anything else is on #-o , Hows about the 24th-26th?

That sounds right up my street! Whether I could actually make it to one is another matter, at least until I've sorted out the downstairs bathroom...

I don't do drunk, but for the rest of it, I'm in if the date and location are right :)

EDIT - stupid auto emoticon from the d-r-u-n-k word. I like a drink or two, I'm just too much of a control freak to find being ratarsed any fun ;P

 no drunk ?? Mind you I did swear never to drink again after monday night, most of my friends had their last exam on monday so I joined them for a pint afterwards, of course a pint turned into several and then several more, and then shots and then double vodkas...

I think I was soooo hung over because I had no food after lunch before the exam (forgot to have dinner in the pub) and I smoked, which always makes me feel worse in the morning. Nothing to do with the copious amounts of mixed drinks at all letsbefriends

I like the idea.

The location would be have to be fairly central because we are all very spreadout.
That would probably be somewhere in the Midlands, like Leicestershire.

Has anyone got a mobile dynamometer and 4 post lift?

Hold on lads and lasses. I've got the perfect solution. Let's all head to Mat's house with plumbing equipment for cars AND plumbing equipment for houses! What could possibly go wrong?

Sounds good, and then Mat can show us all the decent hooning roads! I do like Wales, it's rather pretty.

You could end up with a bath that filled up at the tap-end within seconds but took another minute or two to level out

Some great suggestions above :D

Depending on the numbers coming from the west versus those from the east I was wondering about Kidderminster as fairly central?

It's at the end of the M42 so from the home counties it's straight up the M40 and not too dreadful from Yorkshire.

M5 from cider country and fairly civilized from Wales

If it sounds ok I'll try and find a site

I'd be up for it if I had a BX!

With regards to Kidderminster, I seem to remember a camp site a few miles up the road at Stourport that has a rally field with discounts for block bookings
