TBH Phil I'd just say bring what you like, as you say it's the people that make it what it is. But it would be nice to have a predominately French theme to the cars. I'd like to compete in a Matra Rancho!! [-o<

I am coming around to an amalgam of options: Any French 'classic (in loose terms lol)' of a certain age - 20+ years seems a fair age... What'd be more important in my view would be the shared enthusiasm for French tin (even old Renaults ;) ) and the enjoyment to be had driving in France (which is still, on balance, a wonderful thing)...

I think a rally spec R4 would be an interesting way to travel. :D Following on from last years challenge, I certainly think provincial France responds kindly, to crazy Englishman driving classic French tin.

Ahh, but without wanting to seem snotty, I didn't picture Saxos, Xsara diesels, C5s or DS3s as being in the 'spirit' of the event - sprouting from the BXagon and CCC2012 as it is. Regarding the Citroens: 20 years seems a fair age as it includes ZX's, early Xantias, many XMs as well as BX/AX/CX and GS/GSA/Visa/Dyane - and earlier... And (to suggest some of the potential variety) if we had a Peugeot (nice if it was a 504), Renault (Fuego would be my choice lol), Matra (Rancho or Murena), Panard or Simca even, you can see it would only add to the interest. OK it's more likely to be Peugeot 205/405, Renault 5/Clio/19/very early Laguna, even! but the fact someone arrives in an eligible French car and participates in the event, then it can add to the richness of the experience in my view.

I think I agree with Phil on this one, with one possible change - rather than a solid cut off of 20 years, maybe any model that was in production 20 years ago, as I've never got my head round events where 1 of 2 otherwise identical cars can be excluded simply due to the date it rolled out the factory.

Interesting, so..... as say, the Laguna was in production in 1993/4 it could be argued that any mk 1 Laguna, (pre-facelift?) could be included which means we could see a 1998 Renault in the mix. Not quite the intention... However this isn't a strict rule-driven event. It's a holiday driving round France in (sometimes only vaguely) interesting French cars so if someone turns up in a 18 year old Xantia for instance why would I turn them away? I think I'll put a guide of 20yrs plus on the 'entry' criteria and see how it goes. I don't see it becoming a real big issue.

I had a quick look on eBay for mostly cheap potential candidates. Some more enticing than others. A 5 door 205 might seem daft and not entirely serious but one with a 1.8litre turbo diesel and you can see the fun factor possibilities... Any old car like a Renault 11 will turn heads these days and for that reason would be nice to take along, anyway...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1993-PEUGEOT- ... 1192124808" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1994-Citroen- ... 1170953288" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Renault 21s fall entirely in the 20yrs plus category so a Quadra's fine by me lol!

I don't think an 806 is in the spirit of the event, just in case you were considering it ;)

I would imagine we could make an exception if someone did actually turn up in a Mk.1 V6 Espace... but it's not something I think we need worry about too much :) I want there to be minimal guidelines on what you bring. I think the age thing (20 years) should make whatever turns up interesting.

Sorry to be boring, but I've split the camshaft discussion off here, we'd better try and keep this thread roughly on topic! :lol:
