That's a great idea for a show! Shame it's miles away!

Venue looks to have an interesting line up of events that attract. The distance is a killer though unless I was holidaying in the area at a time that coincided. :(

And presumably the one restored in For Love of Cars. I wonder if they'd like to restore my Mum's old DS which still survives is a precarious state or Dad's former D-reg Lancia Fulvia still dumped in a garden in Leeds.

Don't think they're too fussy about numbers as mine has sneaked through. I'm entered for the parade and the slalom test!

500 of a Model, or of a Type? One means no BX, the other means most versions can apply? From the spectator side of things this is quite a good idea as it prevents the massed ranks of MGs etc from turning up mob handed and taking the best spots in an effort to be the most important thing around. Great if you like MGs, but dull if your of a more open mind.

Sad to report that Popham is tending to have club stands now gaining the centre, and the interesting and diverse stuff that is always driven, is tending to be pushed to the more outside areas. That I can live with, but now we start with the unfriendly types who feel it is their mission to protect an area and preach a gospel. The real enthusiast who just want to drive, mingle, have a bun and coffee, have to forever be looking for good new venues, so as to keep away from these fatheads. Folk who seem unable to organize an original event themselves, so shit on someone else's parade once its successful. Do not get me wrong, Popham has some good years ahead, but I was not greatly amused to be told by a Marshall my 27 year old offering was not really a classic when I have yet to meet anyone that can point me at another in anything like its condition. Yet those club stands in the middle had nigh on new BMW and Jaguars on them, yeah....classic.

But there is the thing. What is the reason for attending a gathering. Is it the drive to and from, possible meeting up with a couple of mates on route, to share the road and muck about a bit? Or is it the venue once reached? For me it should be both, of course. But its the drive that is the reason to go out, the event and the meeting of the folk, the reward. I feel I am probably out of step with most owners these days. But that is how I select my events. So the route has to be interesting (happy to skip the motorways for country lanes and the OS maps) and not in some city or armlocked road system.

Yes Scotland is to far away from here. But I envy the possibilities of the driving up there.

Well they had no problem accepting my car but maybe they're struggling for numbers! Hope not. It's a 140 mile drive for me and I'm already in Scotland!

Just a quick update on the event which took place yesterday.

It was great! I drove up the 180 miles there on Saturday afternoon and stayed in a B&B near Alford. The BX behaved perfectly there and back. I've worked it out at about 360 miles in total. Used 3 quarters of a tank which I think is not bad at all considering.

The event was well attended - 120 cars on show with plenty of visitors. The weather held which was a big help. I like this format of show because it's based on rarity rather than age or value. There were loads of dull boring cars (like mine)! It's nice to see people preserving cars that were produced in their millions but nobody bothered to save from the breakers yard. There was no other BX but a beautiful DS20 and an immaculate TA big 15.

I entered the BX into the parade lap and also the parallel test. The test involved a slalom through some cones, a quick turn at the top then a race back to the finishing line, where only the front axel was allowed to cross. the back wheels had to stay behind the finish line. I was up against a Suzuki Cappucino which was tiny and had power steering so no contest really as it was so nimble round the cones! Such a good laugh though.

I'd recommend this show to anyone who can tackle the monster drive up there.
