Four years ago today we set off on this adventure. It's great to note that of everyone who took part - and in subsequent events (not least last year's Challenge) - are mostly up for the 2015 event. I note that one of the points of the original Challenge was "...the objective of raising at least £10,000 for Cancer Research UK. "

Well, we did it. OK it took a while but the £10,000 barrier was broken. Well done all who helped make that happen.

Now, on to the next event. Does anyone have anything in mind for 2014?

I'm busy working on the possibility of a tour of Ireland at the moment. I wasover in August with the bike and discussed it at length with my parents. They suggested that if we wanted to see some sights that trying to cover both the north and south in 1 week may be too much, so at the moment I'm concentrating south of a line roughly level with Dublin.

I have some details of camp sites to check out - some also have guest houses or hostel accommodation, the idea being to try to keep the group as close together as possible overnight. The biggest expense is the ferries, but Irish Ferries may be able to give us a block booking discount, or look out for special offers in the new year (I booked my crossings for the year with a 20% discount this way!) Time wise I'm looking at late June, as round by my parents at least the schools seem to close in July, so the prices go up.

I'm heading back over next month, this time with Timex, and will be doing a bit of travelling round (including hopefully meeting up with a certain Co. Cork based member!) so hope to have a route suggestion sorted by then, with a start and finish point at Dublin, that being where the most central ferries sail from, without being too big a trip from the other ports.

Anyone with other suggestions please feel free to butt in here, as although this isn't the first evet like this I've organised, it's certainly the first abroad, and on this potential scale!

Always the possibility of something in Wales, though later in the year as I'm already organising an event in May.

Ireland is, or was, a great place to tour. Several friends have reported that the Irish financial fall has taken some of the crak out of the Irish though. Shame, if so, as they always know how to have a good time and generally need little excuse to create one. Of course proper Citroens are made to cope with some of the pretty dire roads. It is easy to forget that wealth came late and turned out illusory to Eire after years being used as a football against a wall by their neighbours.

Wales, I need to go there again soon. Auntie has now died so no excuse but I am suffering withdrawal symptoms for the Mid and North. That said I have yet to do the Gower and some of Pembrokeshire despite that an extraordinary relation used to live in Benton Castle on Milford Haven. My family seem to specialise in eccentrics, I am one myself possibly. Anyway Wales sounds more feasible for me next year. I need to work things out as I need a year run up for the long overdue Hebridian island hopping tour by Messerschmitt I have always wanted to do. This will need a fully prepared car and wallet, and will test the Messerschmitts abilities, and mine, if it goes wrong.
