My cars – a 16V, CX Ambulance, BX 4x4, Visa GTI etc

I thought some might appreciate pics I took of my 16V on the B4560 road from Beaufort today - its a spectacular piece of road only about three miles from me in Wales which is a great drive in all sorts of weather. However today was rather special…

What smashin photos! Could be professional, especially the last one of the 16v. Got one of your 4x4?

Saw that CX on a post on Pistonheads I think, where there was a love vs hate thread about the CX.

I took my red valver across some roads like that in North Wales. Memorable :)

Not sure yet – I'll decide much closer to the time... Though the 4x4 should be on the road by then I don't know whether I'd trust it. Both the 16V and the Ambulance have proved to be pretty reliable. I've now done over 6000 miles in the 16V since October and 12,000 miles in the Ambulance since last May. The 16v I think would be more fun but the Ambulance would be more practical. Are you going on to the IVCA rally in Ghent?

Yep, which reminds me - I have to book my camping pitch!

I'm going over the day before the Challenge starts and Dirk has kindly offered to look after my bike for me while we're driving round France.

Saw the 4x4 on Friday at Tony Weston's - that looks like a motor with great potential but I agree, I'd want to do a few miles in a motor with such a reputation for fragility before taking it on a trip like this.

Here's a first pic of the BX GTI 4x4 on its journey home after collecting it from Andew and Tony Weston yesterday.

Image

They have recommissioned it for me after it having been off the road for seven years with its previous owner. Work included several new hydraulic pipes, new discs all around, new exhaust system, head gasket and exhaust manifold gasket, cam belt, water pump, brake ABS ECU as well as a thorough service. Its now running pretty well though Andrew commented that it was running a bit lean and might need a replacement air mass meter... It certainly needs a new battery which I will get next week and there are various bits of bodywork to attend to.

And good news is that it only cost me £44 to add to a Classic car policy I already had.

First impressions: its very different to my 16V – softer ride, more gentle motor though still pretty fast. And the handling is a bit more neutral.
