Escargot Blanc - BX 1992 19TGD from NZ (New Pics 12 03 14)

Post by DFF53 » Mon Jan 27, 2014 3:49 am

Hi, been without a BX since i sold my Grenouille Rouge two years ago, got this about six months ago when i bought a house in a more rural area. Was looking for something more economical than my 850R for the 400-500ks of driving i do each week. Found this 92 TGD (1.9D N/A) from a Citroen enthusiast from Keri Keri. Escargot Blanc has been more than i expected, i average 6km/l with the driving i do which involves sitting on 3000revs most of the way for my commute to work and back. Here are some pics anyway, she is a pleasure to drive, compared to my 19TRS, mostly because the heater fan works in this one and it has velour instead of tweed seats :) . Hope you like it.

Not forgetting the car that got me into BXes in the first place. my 89 19TRS. As much as i didn't care for the tweed seats, lack of heater and bad fuel economy due to the shitty Solex carb, i still wish i hadn't sold it.

Must be rare to get a Diesel BX in NZ? Sorry to sound daft, but i don't understand your fuel economy of 6km/l, that doesn't sound very good to me? I can get upto 19km/l out of my TXD 1.9 n/a diesel hatch, which looks identical to yours except for your funky fog lights :)

Sorry the consumption figure should be 6l/100km.

Aha, that makes sense, that equates to approx 47mpg, i wonder if you need to change all the filters etc, thats approx 5-10mpg down on mine? or perhaps driving style ;)

Probably could do with a diesel filter change . The roads I drive on usually are quite hilly so got to keep the revs up most of the way. This was sold new in nz , though the diesel bxs in nz command a premium compared to the petrols. I paid more than three times what I paid for my oldy 19TRS.

I'd also check the air filter, if its dirty that won't help. Perhaps some injector cleaner & give the car a thrashing to get rid of all the soot build up in the exhaust system etc... Altitude may also be a contributory factor, as i live in a relatively hilly location, but NZ may be a fair bit higher at sea level?

No matter where you are in NZ you are usually no more than two hours away from the coast, in my case an hour. I felt like a drive over the weekend and it turned out to be perfect day for it. Here are some pics of my BX at a lookout point.
