TZD Hurricane (Beatrix)

Post by Ross S »

Hello all,
Thought now was about the time to introduce my daily driver and one and only BX (pictures to follow) named ‘Beatrix’

Image

The car is a TZD Hurricane I purchased back in August from Jaba on here, John had put a lot of work in to the car (including a full set of GTI gauges and a new cambelt just before handover) and hence so far I have just been working on the cosmetics and getting to know all about it.
Work completed thus far includes...

*Replacement repro 16v gear knob from Chevronics.
*Removal of nasty 90’s Nokia phone kit screwed in to the dash.
*Replacement pedal rubbers.
*Interior detailing with Autoglym products.
*Waxoyling of sunroof mechanism.
*Removal of old P&O Ferries GB sticker on tailgate (though you can still kind of see it was there even with a machine polish and a good application of Autoglym Lifeshine)
*Welding to both front inner wings plus boot floor.
*Upgrading of rather feeble tail lights to new filament LED bulbs (just a good and totally invisible idea when driving a car like this daily)
*Thorough underbody rust proofing with Dinitrol products.

Work still to come is all about the paint which while presentable, does have a few naffed bits of trim and damaged bumper corners, not to mention about a million stone chips.

Would be interested to know which LED bulbs you used? I've tried a few and never had success. They end up looking pink, or yellow!

Indeed I do...

I have thought about getting a smart repairer in but such fixes never seem to look right in older cars...

Cup holder would cover that nicely, after all, bx's could use one. And if you got a black one prob wouldn't look too bad.

Welcome to the club! You've picked up a lovely car off Jaba, the Hurricane has to be my favourite special edition Citroen did of the BX.

Quick google brings up these:

https://www.ringautomotive.com/en/bulbs-12vleds

Halfords make their own ones as well but both Halfords and Ring state "off road and interior use only" but they must know that no-one buying these will be using them just for off road/interior use and that Ring even has a video of them being used on a road car for exterior lights driving off into the distance is quite funny.

Like you, I've had mixed results using LED's in place of standard bulbs, the only ones I've changed and been happy with has been the rear numberplate bulbs as standard filament bulbs would only last 6-12 month before blowing.

Just a few months behind everyone else! Just picked up on this. How's life with the Hurricane? I bought mine off Paul Handley back in November last year and although it's taken a fair amount of time, effort and expense I think it's pretty much how I'd want it now. Just a few bits left.

We'll meet up at a rally one day hopefully and we can compare notes :)

Not like you Phil to be behind the times.
Ross Slaughter did not keep this very long, I don't know why , he sold it on in December to a guy in Ireland who sounds very pleased with it. See this post here : https://www.bxclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopi ... =1&t=22477
