Plan for today? Attempt to, or pay someone to sort out the massively blowing downpipe of the astra. Yay
Could be worse, I spent one of my birthdays being attacked by a swarm of wasps when I tried to visit my mum (she was out!)
I spent a chunk of my 30th in Bristol Eye Hospital after an accident at work :(

Oh dear! Doesn't sound like a pleasant birthday! Gave up trying to undo the manifold-downpipe bolts, and have it to my nice mechanic man - apparently aswell as a blowing gasket the downpipes had sheared in a few places from the manifold adjoining flange - that would explain the rattling then. £40 later, all fixed.

Well after a rather long GT-dry spell I have allotted Friday morning to remove the cambelt. I still need a water pump and tensioner to do it properly, but i'm worried of leaving it much longer just jacked up - need to put axle stands on it really (also will do Friday morning) - and any progress is good atm.

I know i've been quiet on here (and everywhere else too, according to my mother) but work is still ruining my life. I'm now doing 3 days a week at the garden center (Christmas will be open week Tuesday...) and 6/7 nights at domino's (they don't get a capital letter cos they're assholes), for the last 3 weeks and foreseeable future I have been doing 60+ hour weeks :( At least, for the first time since summer 2011, it feels like we're making headway financially. I've been putting a few quid a week aside for the GT and have started paying overdrafts off (Steve also starting to pay debts off, which i'm helping towards) and October will be the first month that we can put the rent from our own house (renting out to a friend) into a savings account for the start of a deposit for house no.2. So, benefits, can start doing GT stuff properly on my few days off (Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings) that is as long as less important things are done first, them dull things like cleaning and laundry and family maintenance etc.

Another positive note, i've done some gardening today and made the front garden all pretty, applied for two jobs, and cleaned the ENTIRE house because it was just getting silly how messy it was.

So, until Friday (yes, there will be pictures) :)

Oh, and another reason for being a non-miserable bastard (the norm for the last few months), tonight is a rare evening when me and my Steve have time off together, and i've got a few beers and i'm cooking a roast and we're just about to watch Priscilla queen of the desert, the second best film ever - topped only by To Wong Foo (the one with Patrick Swayzee, Wesley Snipes and John Leguizamo as drag queens, fucking awesome film).

So today was yet another big fail. Had an interview for an advertised Lab technician for a materials company (all that was stated on advert), turns out it was a coatings and aggregate producing company (polyurethane, road paint, 2K etc) and was very chemistry based so I totally failed the interview! And the MD was a bit patronising, why give me an interview if I'm not a chemist?

Then worked from 10:30 till about ten minutes ago. Back at work, for probably same hours tomorrow at half 8 (same forecast for the week I think). Not very happy at the moment :(

It may not help, but I'd try and look at it as valuable interview experience. It might be a knock to your confidence now, but the next interview can't go as badly! And anyway, it doesn't sound like he was particularly good at interviewing if he was patronising you.

I haven't heard back at all from the last 3 jobs I've applied for :(

When's GT time going to be?

Yea, he told me basically to go back to uni and be a vet (as I first wanted to be) as I have done all the work to do so except the degree part - but I don't want to do that. It'll cost around £12000 a year for 4 years, and i'll get no student finance loan because it's a second degree at the same level (BSc). I was only moody for a few hours about the interview, it was the blokes business afterall and he did come across as the shrewd type. What I'm unhappy about is the prospect of regular 60-80 hour working weeks, no sex life, seeing and exchanging more than one or two words with Steve once a week and an increasingly tired (and when wet, misty and irritating) astra. But i'm still looking and applying for better, singular, jobs.

GT time? Who knows, at this rate it could be beginning of November? I might be able to get a cheeky Monday or Friday morning in before then though. At least with all this working i'll have some funds to purchase bits I need, like water pump, cambelt tensioner and breaker bar to start with. Although next car work time might have to be spent servicing the astra, it's overdue  and sorting out the squeeky fan motor (drives me nuts).

The right job will come along eventually. You sound a bit like me - the last time I was seriously job hunting, I could get as far as interviews easily, but found the last hurdle difficult. I did find that by the time I'd finished what turned out to be an unsuccessful interview I usually didn't want the job anyway!

Just imagine the interviewer naked. Works for me. Well, unless it's an incredibly hot woman and that could become embarrassing.!!:)

New plan for getting the GT on the road is for the X rally, so the 7th April. Will probably use the TXD on our french holiday in March, it'll use much less fuel! May be able to get some stuff done to it in the next few weekends.
