Indeed get that belt changed, try and get a "gates" cambelt kit if possible (GSF sell them). on a petrol BX its fairly straightforward and should takes about 2-3 hours tops, change the waterpump whilst our at it though.

I am shopping around for a garage to do it for me, I wouldn't know where to start changing my own! Maybe this time next year, I just ordered my first Haynes manual. :-?

Ive been in to BX's for 15 years + but still arent confident enough to do it myself, for the £150 or so it costs and the time spane between changes I think its money well spent getting a professional.

Personally i always avoid Gates cambelt kits, I find there tensioners and rollers don't last too long if they're a good fit in the first case. I try to go for DAYCO belts/kits, and i believe these are the OEM manufacturer.

Thanks Mat,

Seems quite appropriate title to me!

Car has had a couple of outings over the weekend and has just tipped the miles at 116k this evening. I'm really enjoying driving it, even the auto gearbox. My neighbours appear to think that I have a screw loose having seen me outside doing my major valentine job, not that it really needed much, but it's just what you do with a shiny new toy. The engine isn't as shiny as the exterior though, and I'm not sure about the bit of Meccano which is incorporated into it! I will post a picture of it a soon.

Neither of my sons are keen on the colour, Nathan (aged 11) says it "stands out too much" and my partner didn't seem too fond of it either. My eldest son, James (aged 18 and not yet driving due to lack of funds) had his first ride in it today and is quite taken.with the interior. He loves how much space there is (front passenger seat) and likes the fact that it's "retro" so one convert anyway, oh yes and my mum likes it.

Thanks for setting up my blog page,

Jane

That should of course read "valeting" job. This is one of the hazards of writing on a mobile phone, it has a very limited vocabulary and will predict words based on what the manufacturers thought were in common use. Can be very amusing sometimes but at other times frustrating and/or embarrassing.

I dunno, I think valentine job is quite appropriate. You know you're in love when someone has to beep you to get out of the road where you're standing, lost in admiration of your car.
