I think it is an optical illusion! They were 14" wheels with 195x14 tyres, so not huge. I guess being black and having close fitting mud guards gives a bigger appearance.

Since those photos I have fitted 15" Volvo alloys with lower profile tyres so approx same o/all diameter. Trailer weight is approx 380kg so even when loaded for a week away should tow OK.
