TIMS BX BLOG

Post by tim leech » Thu Oct 25, 2007 4:05 pm

Err well where do I start, most of you know me being a froum regular and some have even had the great pleasure of meeting me also  , Currently down to one bx (my beloved yet rusty 16V), seems I cant resist a cheap/free/unwanted bx no matter how much I try so my next project if its comes will be number 17.

When im not flogging VWs for a living im always doing something with cars, and regularly cover huge mileages collecting cars, parts etc, theres always a half fixed Citroen in my mums driveway, strange that they always need something doing?

Fortunatly being single and still reasonably young (33) I can fuel my passion for old BXs without anyone moaning, my aim is to rebuilt my 16v to as good as new condition one day and give it a few tweaks along the way, plus aquire my dream bx to keep it company.

Not being blessed with much mechanical skills im reliant on my colleagues at work and a few fellow bxers to help me with the big jobs, my forte morebeing valeting, replacing dash bulbs and being a wheel trim nerd :? (apparently), but im becoming more and more adventurous as it gets very expensive otherwise, ive even asked santa for a decent tool kit this year! :D so who knows what the future holds.

Below is a selection of some of my BXs.

You've had some corkers, Tim. Love the old P5 too!

Look forward to reading about your next project(s). You mention your dream BX. What would that be then?

I loved my P5 phil, but I felt it was too old for me or I too young for it (about 20 years judging by the age of most of the cub members) it cost me a fortune and I had nowhere to put it (one of those impulse buys).

Ive had some lovely BXs, most just needing a good clean and a few minor jobs to get them roadworthy, my dream BX is a 16/19 TZI/S/D auto hatch in olympic blue with grey zenith trim, which has so far become rather ellusive!

They're some lovely BX's you've had, I think I am a bit like you in that I tend to go more toward the valeting side...out of interests what products do you tend to use, I'm still on the autoglym at the moment.

I normally use autoglym as thats what we use at work, I get a weekday off every second week and bring my bx's in, the valeting managers a good mate of mine so lets me use anything the equipment, steamer, vax machine, machine polisher and all the potions and polishes :D

To be honest if I didnt work in the motor trade theres no way I could have so many cars and get the work done cheaply or free gratis. I live on the first floor so trudging up and down stairs with buckets of water wouldnt bode well with the cream carpet!

Meguairs is about the best you will get in my experience, had far better results with it than Autoglym.

Ive had the exact opposite, found meguirs very hard to polish off, super resin is a lazy polish as it shines well and is a doddle to get off.

Well ALOTS happened in the past 5 years, and quite a few BX's have come and gone, but one thats stayed is the GT, which I aim to keep for as long as I can, although it will need some work on the body in the next few years to keep it as nice as I like.

The search for the "dream BX" ended in late 2009 with the purchase of the 19TZI Auto, assisted by Mr C, and since then its been a slow process of getting it up to Scratch, the front Struts and A/C being the two main bugbears but everything takes time, it looks and drives lovely and is surprisingly quick.
