In all fairness that includes the VAT.

And the 30" Display. And the additional memory and the extra this and that...

The Mac itself was £1,899 +VAT.

Actually the GSX is a fair amount more expensive than that lot.

And it's NOT a PC. It's an Apple Mac. 8)

But it is a Personal Computer...

I have to say, despite being a longtime Mac owner (in fact just today I gave away my old but still working beautifully G3 imac) I find the breaking down of personal computers into Macs and PCs somewhat disingenuous, particularly given that although being specifically set up to run Mac OS, now Apple have gone to the Intel chipset the actual physical difference 'twixt a 'Mac' and 'PC' is minimal.

In my view there is the hardware, which is available in various qualities from cheap crap to decent, and is regardless of badge a PC, then there is the software, which runs from expensive crap (Windoze) to the free and tinker-friendly (but brilliantly accesable) GNU/Linux, to the hassle free brilliance of Mac OS.

|I must say I am a little dismayed with the price of Apple products generally. Especially over here where the recent weakness of the dollar was in no way reflected in the product retail prices. In referring to a 'PC' I was using the accepted differentiating term, although yes they are all 'PC's I guess!

It comes to something where I can but my daughter a perfectly decent PC and display for just over10% of what I paid for my workstation. And she's happy with it too.

The last Mac I had was a G4 dual processor 1.25gHz with a 21" Formac display. It lasted me 6 years. It paid for itself 50 times over.

I am in shock.

My eldest daughter, who's 16 next month  and her friend can't wait to get a car (well they'll have to!).

My daughter wants a...

...BX. In fact she wants my GTi. (not likely re: insurance!)

But she said a '14' would do fine but she'd want to 'pimp' it a bit: A black one by putting on black alloys with a pink rim (her words!) and a pink stripe on it... (Whatever, I wouldn't really mind. But a BX   )

Or a white one, with black wheels and dark tinting on the rear windows.

Both do-able for not much £££. In less than a year's time I'll be looking for one.

Unless she changes her mind. And, being a young lady, she probably will

Well, maybe continuous exposure over the last 6 years!?

Actually, her friend and her said they liked the fact it looked different to everything else you see and was 'cool'. (They also liked the fact my GTi is and previous ones have been 'fast'). They also said that boys had recently commented on how wicked my BX was.

So maybe they are starting to, as Apple used to advertise: Think Different. :D

Not a photoshopped image (well, the background's been fuzzed out a bit). These stripes are real - as are the yellow fogs.

Those stripes cover up an unsightly patch of lacquer-less paint. And rather than spend a hundred quid getting it resprayed... decided to have fun.

:o Hmmh, not sure about that but if you're going to stick with it then it would perhaps look less 'jarring' if the stripes continued over the roof! :)

PS: Continuing over the roof would be a case of "more is less" I suppose?

Well, it's difficult because (although it doesn't look so in the pic) the line of the stripes is actually too far over to the n/s (in order to cover a multitude of sins  ) to 'line up' with a continuation on the roof. I might do what you suggest, but it would necessitate cutting the right-hand stripe to conform with the roof edge so it would be far from the same width (if you get what I mean). But it does continue down the back OK.

I'll have a try, see what it looks like.

 It's just a bit of fun really. And heck, it looks better than what's underneath.

You wait 'til the Abarth scorpions go on.

Same story with the yellow fogs. Used a heavy duty film to help hold the cracked glass on the o/s light. Cheapskate.

who is ever really gonna see the roof though? I mean its a little Halfords, but its a good job well executed, any more and it would look a little cack. Look at the 'sport' transit, pretty sure the stripe dont go over the roof on that?

Is that a BMMC badge i spot in the window?
