I'll keep a note

Actually, nothing is set in concrete. For a short time I might have the BX estate, the BX GTi auto, a citroen GS project car and the Synergie.

One will have to go. And at the moment there are two candidates... but it is not an easy choice. I suspect it'll be the Synergie (as it's worth most)...

Synergie goes up for sale next week. Here's a description for anyone who's in the slightest bit interested. I'm looking for about £875 but hopefully more. Reasonable offers not ignored...

1998 Citroen Synergie 2.0i manual 8 seater, white with MOT May 20th 2011 and Tax until the end of July 2011.

REASON FOR SALE:
I haven't had this long, so need to explain why I'm selling it.

I bought it with a holiday in mind where I would need 6-7 (as it turns out this has eight) seats plus room for luggage. It was a ONE owner car when I bought it and is in pretty good order. Holiday plans changed, but we still intended that the Synergie would stay with us...

But then, an exceptional Citroen BX came my way and, being a sucker for the older Citroens, I had to concede that the Synergie was no longer needed.

PRACTICALITY
The interior was given a good hoover and clean - the middle three seats were given a Vax wash and have come up well. These middle three seats and the rear three-seat bench are all removable and have two position settings in the car too, giving lots of permutations. The centre seat folds down to form a sort of table. With the seats out it has a huge load space.

CONDITION
Having had a similar 'bus' (Fiat Ulysse) in the past, I knew this was a good example, with much less wear and tear than these MPVs usually show. But to be safe, as soon as I got it the cambelt was changed as was the water pump, tensioner, the auxiliary belt and it received an oil change. A new idle control stepper motor has been fitted this week. I fixed the connections with the interior lights and door open warning which now work fine. I fitted new number plates to clean up its appearance further.

GOOD POINTS
• A simple, robust vehicle which has plenty of life in it.
• Straightforward to drive (excellent visibility), comfortable and easily maintained too.
• 2 to 8 seat flexibility.
• Service history, low owner count and very recent service (incl. cambelt etc).
• Good tyres (especially rears). New trims.
• 33-35 mpg on a run.
• Clean exterior and interior (never smoked in).
• Six full and two lap belts.
• Remote central locking with key plip and two spare keys.
• Fully working stereo radio cassette with steering wheel controls and eight speakers.
• Security cover for stereo.
• Electric windows (front).
• Driver's airbag (test light extinguishes).
• Adjustable tilt steering wheel and front seat belts have height adjustment.
• Both glove boxes intact (a rare thing it seems!).
• Working rear wash wipe.
• Rear high level brake light.

NOTE I have the owner's manual/wallet and V5.

LESS GOOD POINTS:
• Some minor dents, scratches and scrapes commensurate with age - and, it seems, typical of all Synergies/Ulysses and 806's (particularly a crease on the nearside sliding door - they all have them!).
• There is a little piece of trim missing from the nearside rear arch, but it's relatively easy to source from a breakers.
• The sliding door strips (window weather seals) aren't brilliant, and I was intending to replace them. Seeing as all Synergies and their Fiat and Peugeot counterparts suffer from deterioration of these, you might want to buy new (they are still available) rather than source from a breakers. Not a problem, but I thought I'd draw your attention to this.
• Repaired handle on offside sliding door (but it works just fine).
• Rear bench hasn't been Vaxed (ran out of sunlight!), but it's not that grubby; I don't think it saw that much use in its life. If I get the chance I will do it.

Please bear in mind I am using the car so mileage will go up a little over the life of the advert.

And that's it as far as I know. As usual the car has no warranty given or implied, but for what its worth, I wouldn't have bought it as a family vehicle unless I was happy. I'm sure the new owner will be happy too.

So if you're looking for a cheap and cheerful, yet brilliantly practical vehicle with seating for up to eight people you might find it hard to better this at the price. Oh, and white is the new silver/black/red etc...

The Synergie is located in Chelmsford, Essex. Close to the A12. Cash on collection please.

Apparently it's not too bad: we've seen pics of the underside, but we are prepared for a fairly extensive rebuild. Picking up a pair of new rear panels and possibly a sill tomorrow too. We even have the paint shop lined up. :)

I'll report back on Sunday evening...

Got the GS back in one piece. Did get a new pair of rear panels, which is good. The sills need refabricating a fair amount, but Kermit's confident about that. The floor is solid except for the rear outer areas near the rear arches. The front valance needs replacing but everything else is either repairable or fabricatable...

Kermit's rebuilding the ignition system and the wiring generally needs some refurbishment. The first thing is to get it running, idling, pumping up etc.

Thanks. I would be the first to admit a lot of the work falls on Phil B's shoulders - and I am going to have to keep a tight control on costs as it could easily get mega-expensive (replacement second-hand front undertray/valance panel; £180!), but where there's a will there's a way.
