Activa Fans
Here we go, first problem
My Activa got a bit hot under the collar this evening in heavy traffic. On stopping to investigate, the fans had not cut in. Neither did they cut in when I switched on the A/C although the A/C started up normally
I poked one of the fans with my torch and they burst into life and have been fine ever since.
Diagnosis is one of the fan motors either has a dirty commutator or worn brushes, causing them not to run when wired in series for low speed running.
Is it possible to overhaul a motor and replace the brushes or is replacement the only answer?
To put it another way, knowing how tricky they are to get at, would replacement be the wiser course rather than try a repair?

Hi Jim,
I've replied to your earlier email, in addition in case it's not the fans but the wiring, the following link will help http://www.peugeotlogic.com/workshop/ws ... fanop1.htm

I had a look today and it was not the fan motors
It was the Left Fan Relay as described in Richard's link above although in the Xantia it is in fact on the right-hand side
The realy had been very hot and had burned around pin 5 and heat damaged the realy socket. The change-over relay had really dirty connections.
A good clean-up and a replacement realy sourced from a very dead Transit van appears to have fixed it The damage on the relay socket will worry me for a bit so the fans will enjoy a daily test from now on until I'm secure in the knowledge they're reliable again.

Can't say I've found that, my Activa and TD speedo's are only 1-2 mph fast @ 70 according to sat nav. I'll have to check the MK 2's, to see if they are less accurate.citrojim wrote:His speedo most likely said he was doing 70 thoughMULLEY wrote:Saw one of these beasts today, sailed past in me BX , ok he was only going 60

According to my sat nav Richard, my Activa (MK2) speedo is 6 mph fast at 30, 50 and 70mph Strangely, this is almost the same optimism as seen on those portable "smily" speed indicators that Thames Valley Police place in the villages hereabouts. I always thought my speedo was bang-on because it agreed with the "smilies" so closely and it was only when I got a sat nav I found out the truth.Dickieg wrote:Can't say I've found that, my Activa and TD speedo's are only 1-2 mph fast @ 70 according to sat nav. My TD, MK1 and cable driven speedo, is practically bang-on, as are both my 205 speedos.
Apparantly it is not unusual for MK2 speedos to be a little on the optimistic side. I'm wondering if there is a pot within that might be given a twiddle to make it read correctly...

Yes, absolutely. When first had my Activa I thought that was a fault and expected the speedo to fail in the not too distant!Dickieg wrote:Hmm, 6 mph would roughly equate to the jump that the speedo does as soon as the car moves off.
