It's a mode the auto box runs in to help traction in slippery conditions.

Cruiseability though, none of the diesel Xantias are quick really, my 1.8i is rather pedestrian but stays there when its up.

I didn't think they'd put any autobox on a Xant TurboD though they
may have got adventurous with the S2's

Would you trust anything said about the gearbox change/repair etc?
Is it in fact a homemade conversion?

I believe that is indeed a factory car.
I *think* it was the first evolution of the auto adaptive box rather than the ZF more usually found under the bonnet.
Very, very rare.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Citroen did produce Xantia TD auto's from somewhere around 98 onwards.
