19TZi Power steering rack removal-any tips?

Haynes looks suspect on this one, they only show LHD. They also want the ram removed first, (is this really necessary? to get clearance for pulling the rack out perhaps?) and leave the track rods on the rack, which must make getting it out more awkward, surely. I can't say I'm looking forward to this job, it looks a bit of a birds nest in there with all the pipework etc. Hopefully someone can tell me it's easier than it looks..........Any help appreciated.

To answer my own question-yes, theram has to come off to get the rack out. But it is easier than it looks..........a bit.
