BUGGER! :( Ok wont change the thermostat then! Cant be doing with using stud extractors and tap and die sets!, Had to much of that with my minis! and that was years ago!

It didnt overheat on a 110 miles trip home and the heater got kinda warm but the knobs stuck so couldnt open it all the way! Is there a way of unjamming the heater as two of my cars have!

Heater knobs jammed solid! ( the one in the car that is)

I'm guessing by the banter that there is a difference between early and late thermostat housings. Mine is a metal one and we* had no trouble changing it at the weekend. Perhaps we were just lucky!

Of course, my 16v has the benefit of a temperature gauge so it was easy to spot that the 'stat was at fault.

Still have the heat thing stuck though! (see other post)
