Headlight install
This may seem a daft question, but how much force is needed to set the metal ball-end fixings into the two plastic socket type clips attached to my new headlight?
I have greased both parts but am hesitant to use any more force being wary of the plastic clips snapping. All the clips line up.

Hook the bottom left corner U shaped clip on to the adjuster first, line the rest up and give each corner of the lamp a good hard thump with the palm of your hand and VOILA!

I was also going to ask about this after fitting 2 new lights last week - bish bash bosh and crack! one of the little plastic sockets shatters seems that they're not as flexible as the gen shitroen ones. They're Lucas copies. I just popped the plastic socket out of the old lights and swapped it over - jobs a good un.

One must always defer from 'thumping' glass with bare hands, as any good mechanic or scrap yard dweller will tell you bare hands are like a divining rod when it comes to defect glass, you'll always find the defect and go straight through!!
More importantly, punching/thumping/smacking anything with your hand will lead to damage which will catch up on you one day.
Push, dont thump!

I managed to actually break a headlamp by removing it, a whole section remained attached to one of the lugs, so i removed it, found all the largish splintered pieces & superglued it all back together along with some duck tape to keep it all sealed up & re-fitted. Still works a treat
I tend to do Vanny's method, a decent firm push normally gets it clipped in ok.

If your talking about the glass then that dangerous and illegal and totally unnecessary. Illegal as your car isn't capable of passing an mot, dangerous as a pre broken glass is much more likely to do harm on slow speed impact with say a child, not to mention the light refraction will likely be all over the place, and stupid because i've got about 10 of the things, as has probably every one on here that owns a spanner set!MULLEY wrote:superglued it all back together along with some duck tape to keep it all sealed up & re-fitted.

I think he means the plastic bit. I had a nightmare with a headlamp once where I wanted to change it because the glass was coming unstuck and while I was removing it from the lugs the plastic "bowl" just disintegrated into very sharp shards - I assume with time and all those heat cycles it tends to become brittle.

Supergluing Glass are you taking the piss come on, of course i didnt, my post did say that "a whole section remained attached to one of the lugs" which does infer it was the back of the light i.e the plastic bit.
I've had the headlamp glass litterally come away in my hands, some builders caulk stuck them back on fine.

No it doesnt imply anything, the whole assembley might have broken in half ie glass and plastic. And glass does super glue (there is a reason they call it super glue).
But then when you've stuck them back together with builders caulking (which goes brittle with not a lot of heat), i think its okay to check you haven't made any really silly mistakes.
