The benefits of vented discs?
I understand 16v calipers are interchangable with non 16v cars other than swapping the discs/pads over.
Are there any real benefits?

Yes, if you have a large engined BX and drive like your pants are on fire.
Vented disks cool better, so though initial braking will be the same as non ventilated disks of the same size, repeated braking is less likely to cause overheating and brake fade.

Pads are the same either way, as is the diameter of the disc so you don't get any additional breaking force. As mike says they help with repetetive hard breaking. They last longer as the individual platters only wear from one side. They are a lot less prone to warping (ive had two sets of regular discs warp on the 19rd!).
And they look better.
I usually pay about £10 more for a SET of discs over the regular ones.
I have a set of calipers if you need them, but it is only the frame for the pads which is different, so you can change just this.

When I did mine (a good few years ago now), GSF were doing one side for £28 (normal ones were ~£50+), and Euro Car Parts did the other for about £30, both exchange. So it actually worked out cheaper to upgrade for some strange reason...they weren't bothered about getting the same calipers back, as one of them put it, "they all look the same to me anyway".
Well worth doing if you suffer from brake fade, and for only £20 extra you might as well do it anyway IMO.
Edit - just checked ECP, and they reckon under £50 for the RH caliper. They are showing out of stock on the website, but might be worth a call...
