headroom

i'm 6'4" and find the hatchback with sunroof too cramped in terms of headroom. Now I sat in an estate and found it okay. Would that be due to the lack of sunroof or does it have a higher roof line? I'm wondering if I should go for a hatch without sunroof as I'm not having much luck finding a good estate. Steve

I imagine its the sunroof most probably, i thought the headroom in the front was much the same as the hatch, theres much more room in the back due to the shape of the estate body having a step halfway along the roof.

i think the estates are higher at the front as well, comparing my estate and the recently deceased 17TGD hatch. Theres an extra 3/4 - 1 inch of metal above the front doors before it goes flat for the roof. Makes the estate look narrower/taller in general at normal ride height than the hatch to a 3 yard admirer.

Hatches without sunroof are normally only 14 petrol (excluding TGE, I think) and 17D models - though early 19 diesels (up to E reg?) didn't have a sunroof either.

Not sure about early GTis or 16valves.

I got a 1991 19TZS hatch with no sunroof but thats probably because it has Aircon? The 1990 19TRS has a sunroof but no aircon and yes the roof lining is lower on the sunroof model.

Thinking back the Last car I had in the UK was a F reg BX16RS Auto and that did not have a sunroof either. Sunroofs are only good for one thing..............letting the water in

Well, they were designed to do that, for better or worse, and the problems that occur are with the drainage system (or through corrosion due to the water that does get through the seals as designed).

I was referring to UK specs: I'm slightly surprised at a 16RS without a sunroof as the sunroof used to be one of the BXs's selling points along with the electric windows, as at the time many other cars only had these items as options. I suppose it could be something that came in wholesale on models from about '87, as the one BX I've owned without a sunroof was from about that period (a UK E reg).

My dads mk1 16trs didnt have a sunroof, i think it must have been 1984ish...
