FIXED

Post by DS Andy »

£15 for new BRUSHES and regulator from Bristol Auto Electrical, and now the alternator is putting out 13.6V again. I was concerned that the brushes might not sit well, but they're fine for now.

So I may well renew the TAX on the 8v Gti at the end of the month, then!

And maybe tackle the noisy front struts and nearside steering arms. Worn drop links, perhaps, new BUSHES perhaps!!!

Thanks for all the advice guys, and subsequent discussions!!

That gives me an idea of prices to look at as well.

Having not rebuilt an alternator before was they easy enough to do?

Here we go again

The New Zealand Spec BX strikes Again!

I took out the Alternator and slapped in a place I could not see while fitted was the specs of the Alternator and a logo!

Mitsubishi is the make and I was staggered to see 80 Ah as the output on the thing

Undetered after consulting with local mechanic he thinks that 50 Ah should be sufficant enough and as far as I can tell with Lights on, Air Con running not a significant differance and at least the warning light is no longer on.

God thing though is in theory the Misi Made Alternator should be easy to source parts given the Jappa crapper make is common on the road here. Actually I am considering pinching the one out my parents Mitsi Galant

just make sure it has the correct mountings, the japanese use a totally different mounting system for both alternators and compressors (bolts go straight into the block, not accross it through eyelets like ours).

Its a bit of a PITA as i work for a japanese company that mkaes alternators, but i can't borrow one for long term testing as they dont have french style mounts! :(

80amp is more what i would have expected tbh, UK 16v with aircon is 70amp as standard.

I was joking about removing it from the parents Mitis Galant btw hence the  icon

As of yet have not really "tested" the replacement Alternator under any driving conditions. First priority is removing that screech from cold with a belt adjustment.
